The GREEN BRIAR SERIES was an annual,dated Limited Edition of holiday cup plates introduced in 1980 and ran until 1996 for the Thornton W. Burgess Society. The commemorative series features the Burgess animal characters celebrating in specific locations from his stories such as Smiling Pool, Green Forest and the Crooked Little Path. Each 3-1/2" diameter plate was designed by Nina Sutton and the molds were engraved by artist/engraver Alvin A. White and his initials are stamped on each plate. All cup plates are hand-pressed in lead crystal by Pairpoint Glass Co. of Sagamore, Mass. (USA). This 1984 cup plate (PP#270)from the Thornton Burgess GREEN BRIAR series is clear, 50 scallop edge and fifth in the series which was limited to 1,000 plates in this color. The Path begins in the Green Meadow and winds deep into the Green Forest - twisting around stumps, between rocks and wanders around oak trees and under the evergreens. It features Mrs. Possum, Old Mr. Toad, Peter Rabbit and Danny Meadow-mouse progressing along the winding path. The date 1984 is displayed on the boulder in foreground. The plate is in MINT condition and comes with original pamphlet - sorry not in box.
