This English earthenware 3-piece wash set was manufactured by Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co. (1862-1904) at Cauldon Place, Stroke-upon-Trent prior to being renamed Cauldon Ltd. in 1904. The design was registered in the British Patent Office Number: R 69316, which appears on all three pieces and dates back to 1887.
The spectacular English floral pattern appears on all three pieces in soft shades of greens, beige, peach and a tint of yellow on a cream white background. As they were individually manufactured, there are a few differences. The bowl measures 15.25" diameter x 6" high and has a dark olive green trim around the top of the basin. The wash pitcher measures 13" high and has a light green trim on handle and around the top. The 9.25" diameter plate has no trim.
I have owned this set for nearly 30 years. There are no cracks but a few very minor paint flecks and discolorations around the top of the bowl and pitcher that have occured over the past 119 years. (If you need more pictures just let me know)
The style and antique charm of this beautiful set make it a truly rare find! |
