James Hawker & Co., Ltd. commissioned this decanter to be produced in 1957 to commemorate the sailing of the Mayflower II from England to Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The ceramic decanter features two printed scenes: Under the "Mayflower" Medallion on front- "1620 The Mayflower in Plymouth Harbour" and on the backside beneath the sherry sticker RICH - "1620 Landing of the Pilgrims".
The base is marked Copeland~Spode~England (shape #K1005) and initials MF-JH/1 (Michael Farr, Managing Director of Hawkers~James Hawker). After being corked, the top of each decanter was sealed with wax. The decanter measures approximately 9-1/2" high and 4-1/2" diameter at base.
There are no chips, cracks, repairs and comes with original cork....sorry contents are long gone!
A wonderful addition to any Mayflower historical collection. |
