Cecile R. Johnson has painted landscapes around the world, but is also identified as a painter of sport scenes, especially action sports such as tennis and skiing.
This watercolor print is not titled or numbered, but I believe it is from either the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan or 1976 Innsbruck, Austria. In the mid 1970s I was fortunate to meet Cecile Johnson at a ski show in Boston and after purchasing the print had her sign it in the lower right-hand side...printed signature on left.
The picture features a lovely winter scene...two skiers on a snowy mountain trail, bordered by snow covered trees heading toward the base. There is another ski mountain to the left and a beautiful, hazy valley and mountain background.
The framed print is not matted and measures 20.5" x 15.5". The frame is light blue with antique gold trim. There is a little discolor around the edges due to age, but in excellent condition. A wonderful gift for the ski enthusiast! (Please note there are some reflections in pictures from the glass) |
