1764 BOOK ELEMENTS of the ART of ASSAYING METALS -
This 1764 edition is the 2nd printing of the English Edition of the book titled ELEMENTS of the ART of ASSAYING METALS in TWO PARTS, the first containing THE THEORY, the second THE PRACTICE of the said ART. (The 1st was the 1739 Latin Edition by John Andrew Cramer, M.D.) This translation by Cromwell Mortimer, M.D., printed in London, L. Davis and C. Reymers. Originally 471 pages, this one is missing the last index page and the 6 multi-fold plates original to the book are also missing. The original boards were covered both inside and out by paper from an 1801 newspaper. The cover and spine are in poor condition with missing fragments and severely worn corners and edges, but the thread binding the pages is intact (photos). The pages are soiled and creased but readable. Priced as a rebind project. |

UNIVERSAL DESIGN BOOK 1908-9 SHATTOCK McKAY CO -
This 1908 Universal Design book contains illustrations and the Official List Prices adopted by the Wholesale Sash, Door and Blind Manufacturers Association of the Northwest, the General Sash and Door Association, Association of American Window Glass Manufactures, Wholesale Plate Glass Manufactures Association and the National Mirror Manufacturers Association of the United States. It was published in Chicago by the Shattock & McKay Co. Included are early 20th Century design illustrations of doors, windows, transoms, wood blinds, store fronts, ornaments, railing, china closets, stairs newels and balusters, porch columns, gable ornaments and brackets, capitals, church furnishings, inside grilles, floor designs, mantels, carvings, etched window glass designs, mouldings (with dimensions) and a 27 page colored section on stained leaded glass patterns. It measures 10-1/4 x 7 inches with 471 pages. Front cover is stamped 'ALLEN MFG. CO., LTD. SHREVEPORT, LA.' There are owners red ink address stamps on the 'ffep'. Cover is soiled with color lost on lettering, spine ends are bumped with tears and corners and edges are bumped (see photos). Pages are yellowed but clean with minor moisture damage at bottom edge of last 40 pages. This is a great reference book for historical restoration projects. |
