QUIMPER POTTERY TRICORNE PITCHER RELIGIOUS SCENE -
This early vintage 5 ½ inch tall Tricorne Shaped Pottery Pitcher was made in the Quimper Region of Brittany, France. It features the white tin glazing called faience in French. The hand painted religious design is of the Virgin Mary (or maybe a Saint) finished in the distinctive colors of yellow, blue and brown used on this type of pottery. There is also blue line decoration on the handle. As is the case of early pieces, it is unmarked with many edge chips (see photos) and an uneven glaze surface, but it has no cracks. This pitcher was probably used for Holy Water.
