Dating from about 1910, this beautiful application is a fine example of early Swiss machine embroidery from St. Gallen, a world known center for fine craftsmanship. It is 8 ¾ inches (20cm) long and it’s width is 1½ inches (4 cm). The main colors are red to pink with blue scrolls on net at each end. The centers of the two flowers are
raised satin buttons with red trim. It is lightly tacked to a piece of white silk and is easily removable. This is one of the loveliest pieces I have ever had. Use it for an elegant sewing project, collages or as a prize collector’s piece. I pay overseas airmail postage.





 

Vintage Hanky Holder with Ribbon Embroidery This is such a pretty hand made handkerchief case made of padded silk and beautiful ribbon embroidery. The background is a gray green Mornay silk and there are sixteen beige and pink richly made flowers. There are accents of fine oval silver sequins. The inside is a quilted beige silk satin with a gray green cord trim. There are two wide light blue silk satin ribbons to tie it closed, I am not sure if these are original. The condition is good. There are a few sequins missing see photo) and there is some pale staining on the blue ribbons. There are no spots or tears. The closed size is 8x8 inches (20x20 cm) I would guess it was made in the very early 1900’s. This vanity it would make a lovely wedding gift.
