This handsome and very old card board cigar box is made to look like a book. On the burgundy red front with scrolly design in black is printed in gold Habana Haus and Max Oettinger. The Oettinger tobacco company was founded in 1875. It later became the Davidoff Group in Basel, Switzerland and later was owned by Dr. Ernst Schnieder. On the inside of the lid is a print or litho of the Eisengasse (street) in Basel where the Habana-Haus was located. The book title is Max Oettinger Werke 2 (second part). There is much gold decor on this. On the back is printed in gold Basel, Eisengasse 12, Zürich Bahnhofstrasse 76 and St. Ludwig Elsass (France). The sides of the book where the pages should be is Victorian muddled paper. The container is 6 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches (18 x 11.2 cm). It’s thickness is 7/8 inch (2 ½ cm). The box is still strong and unbroken but does show it’s age especially on the inside. This item is an interesting addition to a serious collection. Overseas surface postage $8.00, airmail $18.00 Please look on my site in the tobacciana category for other interesting items that may interest you. Thanks
