Rochester Burner Samovar or Chafing Dish
This is a very nice nickel plated alcohol type burner for a chafing dish or hot food or liquid service unit like that, fully self contained with it's own fuel tank and snuffer cap. It is marked "ROCHESTER" on the bottom, most likely made by Rochester Mfg. Co. in New York. Much different from most burners we see, this one has a central perforated tube, and an adjustable sleeve that can completely close off the burner via the thumbscrew adjustment on the side, just above the fuel tank. The tank has a good thread fill hole cap with a little seal washer on it. It comes with a small cup shaped top that I believe is to protect the burner while not in use. The condition of this burner is new old stock as far as we can see, the snuffer is missing some nickel plating, otherwise the plating is about 99% intact, very nice looking. The base or the round part that is designed to fit into a lamp is tapered, and measures 3.34" to 3.36" diameter, for a press fit I assume. The unit is 3.25" tall overall, without the snuffer in place. A very nice unit.
Circa: early 1900's
Condition: Very Good
Manufacturer: Rochester
