Circa: 1910's-30's Condition: Very Good Manufacturer: Peck, Stow, & Wilcox Co. U.S.A.
This is a very nice clean useable 10" swing ratchet brace made and marked "PEXTO MADE IN USA" on the handle arm, also marked "8010E" on the chuck arm. This brace features very nice, unique marblized molded handles that appear much like exotic tropical hardwood, but are actually a special heavy duty injection molded plastic, similar to the same material that Henry Disston used on some of their high end hand-saws! The handles in very good condition, with some minor dings and wear, but nice finish overall. The finish on the metal surfaces is also very nice, it appears the arms are polished bare metal, and some of the hardware parts are nickel plated. This is one of Peck, Stow and Wilcox Co.'s better ratchet braces, with ball bearing head drive, very nice two jaw chuck, very heavy duty on both the chuck and the ratchet system. The chuck works perfectly, as well as the ratchet. A nice antique brace in great working condition. Truely a pleasure to use! The PEXTO logo is that of Peck Stow & Wilcox Co., a well known, respected tool maker in the early 1900's. |
