Circa: Late 1800's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: Peck, Stow, & Wilcox Co. U.S.A.
This is a very nice, clean, late 1800's patented ratchet hand brace, and it has a 10" swing. The ratchet system is a unique patented design, originally patented in 1879 by P.S. & W. CO.. It is marked "NO. 10C2 P.S. & W. CO.". The ratchet system is controlled by two spring loaded flip levers that can engage or disengage the ratchet system, and also lock the spindle for installing or removal of drill and auger bits with the tapered shank, or smaller drill bits with standard round shanks. The chuck is in good condition with nice heavy duty, spring loaded jaw inserts, in good condition, the knurled part of the chuck or the chuck sleeve is steel with very little wear, very good working ratchet system as well. The head turns smoothly, capped with a very nice rosewood handle, and the crank handle matches it very well in condition and appearence. The condition is very good overall, with only minor wear, a few scratches or dings on the steel, and on the rosewood handles. In really good working condition overall. A quality made brace, still in great shape, nice looking too!
