Offering this nice clean corrigated bottom smooth plane marked "STANLEY SW MADE IN U.S.A." on the cutter, with the sweetheart logo, and "BAILEY NO. 4 MADE IN U.S.A." on the toe. There is also 3 cast patent dates on the bed the last is "U.S. PAT. APR.19-10". This plane has about 85% original black Japanning intact, a good sharp cutter, no cracks, minor staining, no rust, a little very minor pitting here and there, some minor dings and scratches, very clean bare metal surfaces. We note one E letter stamped on one side of the bed. The rosewood front knob and rear handle are very nicely grained rosewood, solid, with a nice smooth finish, minimal wear with only very tiny dings and scratches on each. The tote is a little rounded off on the top edge, but no cracks, the front knob has a very minor grain seperations, but was tested and is very solid. The cutter is sharp and ready to use, about 85% intact, lateral, depth, and frog position adjustment all in very good working order. A very clean, ready to use or display plane by a top quality maker! |
