Bischoff Hand Painted Plate For sale is an antique Franz Bischoff limoges porcelain tray. c: 1892-1907. Click on other pics for better view. Signed legibly: Franz A. Bischoff on display left side. Green backstamp on back: T&V France, (mark 5a, pg. 193, M. Gaston's book). Gorgeous tray with pierced handles; 10.5 x 10 inches. Backside reveals possible small professional repairs when looking at it under a black light. Two small areas, (one is about 3/4 inch; other is less than a pea size), show up as 'white' under the blacklight. This could just be where the porcelain is thinner, or they could be repairs. In any case, if they are repairs, whomever did it was a pro; and they were likely just very minor surface flakes off the porcelain. Frontside has one area on the gold that is a bit lighter, (very tiny spot), but nothing shows up under the blacklight. The painting on this tray is superb; the faces of the figurines are wonderful. Bischoff was one of the premier porcelain artists in the 19th, early 20th C; known for his famous roses and later landscapes. Since none of the 'flaws', if they are indeed real flaws, are visible from front display side; and not really detectible from back unless looking at it under a light, I consider them minor. It is a true one of a kind work of art. This would make a fabulous luxury gift! This item was in a Frank Boos auction at one time and believe this was the listed price on it, (FB is now deceased; he was the older guy with the bow tie on Antiques Roadshow). Price is firm. As is, as described. Cashier's check only; usa buyer's only and buyer to pick up and arrange own insurance; must sign release form at pick up.

clayhead100909

Vintage Statuary Head Vintage statuary head. At first look you might think this is terra cotta clay, but it is much heavier than ordinary terra cotta clay. It is likely cement with terra cotta clay coloring over it. When I tap my fingernail on it, it does not sound like terra cotta either, it sounds like statuary. It is quite hefty and stands 10.5 tall x 6.5 wide. One fleabite near bottom eyelid and 2 pinpops near backside; otherwise good condition, see pics. Not marked with any maker's marks; hollow inside. Just a really interesting piece of statuary and it looks fairly old. Roman goddess Vesta? Looks like a Roman or Grecian goddess to me. 10/09esa#

Antique Hand Tinted Print Antique hand tinted Teton National Park print. Very nice antique print, marked on the back: Hand Tinted by Aunt Ida Hubbard; back of print also reads: Mt. Moran at Sunrise Teton National Park, copyright by Crandall, Grand Teton National Park #1105. Bottom left front of print has raised printed words: Crandall (c) Teton Park. There is one 1" crease mark on lower left bottom of picture, but otherwise, it is in good antique condition with original wood back. I had to take it out to clean the glass, it was filthy. It measures 10 high x 12 wide. Any white stuff in the pics is sunglare, there are no faded spots on this item. The painting/hand tinting is incredibly fine on this.

Antique Celluloid Accessory Box Antique celluloid accessory box. This box once held manicure implements; lid features a lady in a row boat. This box is in quite lovely condition for its age; has a blue silk/satin lining. It is 9.25 wide x 3 tall x 5 deep. Has an old paper label on bottom and some numbers/letters in blue ink; almost certain this is a vintage Italian paper label. The perfect feminine gift! These antique boxes are not usually found in this good of condition. (In N.Y., these boxes sell for over $800!)

Victorian Celluloid Accessory Box Victorian celluloid accessory box. Lovely box featuring a dandy gentleman and flowers on the lid. Brass hinge; pink satin/silk lining. The lining is a bit frayed and dirty; has 3 of the original manicure implements inside. One is a tiny round rouge box; another is a brush; one is smoothing brush. The exterior top is in good condition; side paper is good; front bottom paper near hinge is worn off in areas. This box is 9.5 wide x 2.5 tall x 4.75 deep. These antique boxes are really just for display today because of their fragility. (still has the old paper label on bottom; letters: VVN; almost certain this is an Italian label). Franz Bischoff Porcelain Roses Tray Antique Franz Bischoff hand painted porcelain tray. c:1864-1929. Click on other pics for better view. A fabulous work of art! Signed very legibly: 'Franz A. Bischoff' and was previously appraised and authenticated by the Boos Gallery in MI several years ago. Franz Arthur Bischoff was born in Austria; founded the Bischoff School of Ceramic Art in New York and Detroit, then moved to CA. Bischoff was one of the most famous ceramic artists in North American in the late 19th C. and early 20th C. His early work was comprised of these very decorative porcelain trays with gold cartouches and roses, which are harder to come by than his later works consisting of oil paintings and large vases. This stunning tray has pink and yellow roses with teal green leaves. No chips, cracks or repairs. It is 15.5 long x 10.5 wide. (A round plate recently sold for $35,000 at Butterfields exclusive of buyer's premium & sales tax). Bischoff was known as the 'King of the Rose Painters', (see Edan Hughes, 'Artists in California', 1786-1940). Cashier's check only; USA buyer's only and buyer to pick up and arrange own insurance and sign release form at pick up.

Antique Pouyat French Limoges Porcelain Tray Antique hand painted Pouyat French limoges porcelain tray. c:1899. Artist signed, Anna K. Stiotel '99, with green J.P.L. over France backstamp. The painting is quite exquisite, and if it weren't signed Anna K. Stiotel it could easily be mistaken for a Bischoff. There is a lot of depth in the painting; it is not just roses on a blank background. No chips, cracks, or repairs. It does have a couple of tiny aging flaws: some white/straw marks on the pink rose and the burdgandy rose, and some wear off the gold on the handle as can be expected for a 100+ year tray. It is 12.5 long x 8.75 wide. Ornately scrolled shape with pierced handles. Shipping to USA destinations only. No paypal on this item. 10.3chu.cs

Haviland Limoges Berries Cabinet Plates Antique Haviland Limoges signed berries cabinet plates. c:1896. 2 antique hand painted plates; the price is for one plate, your choice; specify which one you want when placing order; if you buy both, better price. One has blackberries, one has blueberries. These are exceptionally fine, hand painted, artist signed and dated plates. Green backstamp reads: H&C over L over France; shown as mark 11, pg. 178, in M. Gaston's 3rd edit. book. Artist initial in gold: M.A.S. '96, (1896). These plates are very similar, but not identical, and are both 8.5 inches wide; no chips or cracks; scalloped edges with raised scroll work and a lot of depth in the painting. No visible flaws in ordinary light; if you look at them under a lamplight, there are some minor, insignificant scratches as expected for 100+ year old items. One of a kind works of art!

Vintage Oriental Table Top Panel Vintage table top oriental panel. Beautiful, unique vintage panel. Likely made in Japan. It is quite heavy for its size, and has black lacquering and gold paint on one side; and the other side features 4 urns with lotus, dogwood, and other types of plants. Each urn appears to be made out of shaved agates, and the flowers are made from abilone; the green on the leaves of the plants might be jade. It is showing some wear, mainly on the black lacquered side, (some nicks and paint loss; other side is great but for some small nicks on one of the urns. This divider is 17 long x 14 tall. I've never come across one like this; usually these dividers just have abilone geishas on them and are much larger. It makes a wonderful tabletop accessory!

Antique English Tea Caddy Gorgeous antique English paper mache tea caddy. c:1825-1864 according to my research; auction catalog says 1850. This came from the estate of a private N.Y. collector and sold at a fine auction in MI. Stunning antique box, much more beautiful than the pictures are showing it. Likely J&B, (Jennings & Bettridge; over 60% were not signed J&B). The lock has impressed 'VR' for Victoria Regina with anchor symbol, and 'Patent' mark. Original key that does work to lock it and old paper label 'No. 401'. This box features mother of pearl and abilone inlay in a Victorian floral design. It has 2 compartments with finials on the lids which are also carved pearl. It is lined with silver tea paper. Box is 4.5 tall x 7 long x 5 wide. It appears to have one small repaired area on the interior underside back of lid which was difficult to photograph; a minor flaw, and not something anyone would notice without scouring it since it is on the interior. No chips or flakes. This is an outstanding antique. Price is firm; very close to what I paid for it. au-CC-V-kk-11-07
