Very nice vintage whale planter. (or dolphin?). Matte white with pale blue coloring. It is heavy, and the pottery is a creamy smooth type reminiscent of McCoy or Hull, (no stilt marks, so probably not old Haeger, no dry runners, so probably not Brush or Royal Copley). I am confident this item is vintage American made just by the weight and feel of him, as well as the original black ink stamp price of $1.00 on the dry bottom. I have other American pieces with stamps like this on their bottoms, (see the McCoy double cache pot, it has the same price mark on the bottom of it). This cutie stands 8 tall x about 6 long, with no chips or cracks, just some faint crazing. Very unique planter! Could be a rare item! |
