Victorian thru Art Deco Eras 1890-1945

Picture

Prior to the Art Nouveau era, jewelry designs of the Victorian and Edwardian period are dominated by lacy, delicate openwork, knife-edged and milegrained settings and usually dominated by faceted stones and pearls. This style was marked by garland-style designs such as wreaths, leaves, ribbons and bows, flower baskets and floral designs. Sometimes celestial designs of stars, crescents were used along with small-scale figurals. Art Nouveau designs (1890-1915) generally centered on a poetic interpretation of nature where Art Deco (1910-1930) refers to a style of geometric lines and bold colors with machine-age design, zig-zag patterns and parallel lines. Deco also included use of speed motif in animal figurals such as gazelles and leopards. Also popular were Egyptian motifs, pave' settings and carved/engraved stones. The era referred to as Art Moderne (1935-1945) focused on the art trend of combining phenolics with modern metals such as Bakelite and chromium. There is liberal overlap of time frames for these periods and the items listed in this category generally fall in the 1890-1930 era.

AMCOPin100
RARE AMCO Jewels Genuine Gem Pin MIB This is a fabulous, rare piece of antique jewelry. It is a signed, 14K gold-plated genuine amethyst and pearl gemstone flower pin that has never been removed from its original gold-foiled box. The piece is by AMCO jewels which was the mark used by A. Micallef & Co, founded in 1919. They first used the AMCO mark around 1936 and were known for quality gold, gold-filled and silver jewelry. The name is very scarce today and highly collectible. This pin comes still wired onto the original velvet card in the original gold-foiled velvet lined box. It features a 14K gold overlay filigree setting with a genuine amethyst gemstone and cultured pearl. I don't know the carat weight of the stone but judging from the dimensions of 10mm x 8mm, I would estimate the stone to be in excess of several carats. The pearl is a wonderful luminous creamy pink and measures 6mm. The pin measures 2 inches long by 3/4 inches wide. It is hallmarked 1/20th 12K GF on the pin shaft. The velvet card still has the original AMCO inventory number on the reverse. The box is gold-foiled and measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 and is also in MINT condtion. Overall, this is an amazingly rare find. The piece is in perfect, original new condition.

Exquisite Sterling Vermiel Floral Enamel Ring This is undoubtedly the most exquisite sterling enamel ring I have ever owned. It features a wide delicately scrolled gold vermiel sterling setting with the most beautiful floral design in blue and rose on a pale green background. The ring measures 2/3 inches across the top and is a size 6. It cannot be resized. I would definitely keep it if it weren't too small. Hallmarked STERLING along with what appears to be a makers mark. Aside from minor gold plating loss on the inside of the band, this ring is in excellent condition. So beautiful!
