The beadwork that was done in Hong Kong factories in the mid-twentieth century puts today's beaded clothing to shame. This top is a lined ivory-color knit material, covered with iridescent sequins (front and back!) with an elaborate 2-inch border around the deep V-neck and the bottom edge. The border is made up of silvertone sequins and bugle beads that are sewn on in a design with dimension - - the bugle beads stick out in inverted V's. The border design also has white pearlized beads, silver-lined clear beads, pink plastic oval beads, and rose rhinestones that are prong-set and raised above the rest of the design, surrounded by silvertone petals!
The top has a full-length nylon zipper in the back and a label that reads "LOVELY - Superb Workmanship by ARTS KNITTING FTY - P.O. Box 7004 KLN. Hong Kong" and a size label reads "38". When laid flat, the bust measures 39". Please compare this to a top you have that fits you. The length from shoulder to hem is 22 1/2 inches and the width of the shoulders is 16" (measured from the top of one armhole edge to the other).
This fabulous top is in very good condition. Unlike the lightweight silk blouses and dresses that are bead-embellished today, this top is made of knit fabric that is substantial enough to hold up to the weight of the beads and sequins. They just don't make 'em like this any more.
This top appears to "hang" a bit on my skinny little mannequin-form because it is a large size. Imagine it on you....with a satin skirt...
