9500

ART DECO JAPANESE LUSTRE WARE SUGAR SHAKER MUFFINEER From a local Atlanta estate comes this rare piece of Made in Japan porcelain dating to the art deco era of the 1920s or 30s. Prettier than most lustre ware that I've seen, the sugar shaker or Muffineer is stamped on the bottom "ELITE" and "MADE IN JAPAN" with a wreath with the letter "B" inside. Beautifully shaped with elegant scalloped lines, the brilliantly hand painted piece measures about 7" tall.

The large shaker is a decorative piece that is as functional as it is lovely. With bright orange and white with yellow, orange, green and blue flowers and art deco designs it has a gold painted top and what appears to be its original cork stopper in the bottom.

In excellent condition, this can be used as a vanity piece if desired, holding talcum powder, potpourri, or as a hatpin holder. As a kitchen piece, it can hold powdered sugar, cinnamon or otherspices, or simply grouped with other Japanese pottery or art deco items. It has natural imperfections as would be expected in a piece of its type, but it is free of any damage, chips, nicks, repaint or repairs. Any imperfections on the piece are origiinal to the piece, and it only has some very minor rubbin at the gold accented top, nothing detracting or devaluing.

3957

RARE ANTIQUE CARVED IVORY FLORAL FIGURAL S/P SHAKERS This fabulous set has been in my own collection for nearly 15 years. Made completely of natural ivory, I'd guess that these date to the late 1800s to early 1900s. I saw a similar pair listed on eBay in the past few months with a $650 opening bid! That's about $600 MORE than my opener!

The shakers each measure about 3" high with a round base that's 1 3/4" in diameter. They unscrew at the bottom as well as the top of the thin section, plus the tops unscrew in order to fill with salt and pepper. The shakers are marked in red ink with a "S." and a "P.". I'd guess these were made in Japan, but no maker's mark is evident.

Each base is scalloped like the petals of a flower, then the thin base leads to a top floral section to put your seasoning into. Though they have been carved smooth, if you look at the base and the sides you can see the tell tale ivory graining and cross hatching to show that these are true IVORY.

The pair is being sold in AS FOUND condition. I've cleaned them lightly with a mild soap, but I'll leave the final cleaning to the lucky winner. They're in good condition with a chip on one of the tops as illustrated. Otherwise, they only show some minor hairlines that do not detract or devalue, in my opinion. I've taken lots of pictures so you can get an idea of how they look. Functional and decorative, these lovelies are sure to be a fabulous focal point for any table or china cabinet.

4205

SUPERB ANTIQUE W VA HICKORY or OAK EGG or APPLE BASKET! Purchased at a farm auction in West Virginia nearly 20 years ago, this old primitive basket measures about 16" by 12.5" and is 6.5" high without the handle and about 14" including the bentwood handle. I am unsure of its exact age but I estimate it dates to the 1920s to the mid 1900s.

The basket appears to be either oak or hickory...but please bear with me...I am NOT an expert on old farm antiques or wood. It is beautifully hand woven and has a great look to it. I was told that it is an egg basket, but I think it could have just as feasibly been an apple basket as well.

In excellent condition, the basket is free of damage or repair and has a nice aged appearance. A nice addition to any collection of country collectibles and primitiives, there is no reserve and an opening bid of my cost nearly 2 decades ago! Don't miss this one.

PAIR ART DECO WOODEN MINIATURE PAINT CANNISTERS Two little wooden lidded cannisters, very cool, paper labels, labels appear to say that these had gold paint inside, though there is no paint remnants, circa 1920s or so, maybe a little earlier, about 4 1/2" tall each. Very good condition, lots of uses, decorative too.

55988

NIB! 4 RED Fiesta FIESTAWAREDRAWER PULLS DOOR KNOBS This is a set I bought about 8 or 10 years ago and was unable to use in my kitchen. It is BRAND NEW and never been out of its original box.

From what I can see, this is a rare set and not too often to be found for sale. I do not think they are being manufactured today.

Please note:

Genuine Fiesta Accessories are Licensed & Authorized by The Homer Laughlin China Co for the fiestaware inspired product line.

This is a classic set of 4 HTF rare RED Fiesta Drawer Pulls. Each white glazed ceramic pull measures approximately 1.5" in diameter and has a different fired on decal decoration. The designs are of a red teapot, cup & saucer, pitcher and carafe.

The set comes brand new in the original box complete with mounting hardware.

Authentic Fiesta items are handcrafted so there are sometimes slight variations in color and minor flaws. These are all part of normal production and are not considered defects or seconds. Items may or may not contain minor factory flaws...that said, this set does not appear to have any of these issues from what I can see.

7987

ANTIQUE ENGLISH CREAMER CORNISH PISKY NEAR FALMOUTH Approx 3 1/8" tall antique English creamer, whimsical graphic on the front with a little creature called a pisky sitting on a mushroom.

CORNISH PISKY SEEN NEAR FALMOUTH

Stamped on the bottom ENGLAND

Circa early to mid 1900s.

Excellent condition. From my private collection.

Here is some information I found on Piskies:

The Cornish Pisky is the most famous of the Pobol Vean. However, what he/she/it looks like it depends upon which part of Cornwall you visit. In the East of Cornwall, we find the familiar tribe of Piskies, with their elfin looks, pointy hats and pointier ears. Like the Spriggans, they are mischievous creatures. However,in West Cornwall, Pisky is a solitary individual rather than a tribe. Margaret Ann Courtney defines the Piskies as follows:

'The small people go about in parties, but the pisky in his habits, at least in West Cornwall, is a solitary being. Here in the west he is a ragged, merry little fellow (to 'laugh like a Pisky' is a common Cornish simile), interesting himself in human affairs, threshing the farmer's corn at nights, or doing other work, and pinching maidservants when they leave the house dirty at bed-time.'

(Courtney, Cornish Feasts and Folk-lore, p.122)

Whichever version you choose, there is no mistaking Pisky behaviour. A favourite trick was to ride horses at night so that their owners found them exhausted in the mornings. Where the horses had been ridden in a circle, gallitraps, or faerie rings, were left behind.

ANTIQUE VINTAGE PAIR SIGNED MEXICAN COPPER COVERED CONTAINERS These look like sugar containers, not sure, from my private collection, sold as found, unpolished, definitely could use a little cleaning up. Each is signed with marks I am unfamiliar of, but they are from Mexico. Initials look like S and L...could this be Spratling or a related designer?

Approx. 5" tall each, early to mid 1900s. Each is double handled and urn shaped. Both are copper with a line of brass beaded motif edging. White interior.

I welcome information on these. They are in good vintage condition, some wear, as found. Priced for the pair.
