1940 French Composition Doll NICE/ORIG OWNER!
Just in from a local collection exclusively to the internet comes this unique foreign doll. The original owner was a woman who passed away in 1996...I am selling this for her husband, who told me that his wife's aunt brought the doll over from France in 1940. She NEVER played with the doll...only displayed it like the treasure it is! Lovely indeed, the doll measures approximately 19 inches long and would date to the late 1930s to 1940.
The doll is absolutely adorable! She has a composition head with molded hair and her facial features are hand painted, complete with blushed cheeks and pouty lips. Her mouth is open with realistic little teeth inside. This little French gem is straw filled, and she has cloth arms and legs. I am not sure if her appendages are original or not, as they are not straw filled like the rest of her. I do know, however, that if they are not original, they were added before she was brought over from Europe. She is wearing a hand beaded bonnet and an awesome beige satin and green brocade dress which has been trimmed with lovely flowered fabric and lace. Underneath her dress she still wears her slip, also trimmed with a gold lace.
Her head is sewn onto her body and on the back of her neck in raised letters and numbers is "FRANCE" and below that "40". She has sleep eyes set into her head.
In very nice condition, this baby doll is charming indeed! Her composition head is without cracks or repairs and her outfit is bright and apparantly original. Her eyes have fallen back into her head, unfortunately, but a competant doll repair person should have no trouble rectifying that small problem. Her legs and arms are in perfect condition..rips or detachments. Her bonnet has a few beads which have come out, but this in no way detracts or warrants concern or repair. Make sure to click on my other auctions to see the other French doll from this same collection. Surely a welcomed addition to the most advanced of collections, why not add this one to yours today?

Unique Pair Antique Vintage Russian Dolls
Just in from a local collection exclusively to the internet comes this wonderful pair of foreign dolls. Each measuring approximately 12 inches high, the dolls definitely date back a bit, though I'm not exactly sure. I'd estimte 1920s or 30s.
The little couple are each handmade and embody such charm and indivudality. I am speculating as to their origin, and my opinion is that they are probably souvenirs of Russia, based on thier costumes.
They are both wearing black outfits, though one has a red headpiece on and is equipped with a wooden sword, and the other has flowered paints on but no weapon.
Both dolls are handmade and have embroidered facial features and sequins down their chests.
In excellent condition, the dolls are complete and original. I've never had any dolls like these before...such character and personality for a souvenir from another land! Surely a welcomed addition to the most advanced of collections, why not add this one to yours today?

SUPERB 1950s RODDY SCOTTISH BAGPIPE BOY WALKER DOLL
This is a pristine vintage hard plastic English doll by "roddy". Marked clearly on the back of his torso "RODDY MADE IN ENGLAND", the boy dates to the 1950s and is hard molded plastic that looks like celluloid to me.
The little Scottish bagpipe player is all original with red and green plaid kilt costume complete with accesories and bagpipe. He has a matching hat, molded shoes and striped ribbon socks around his ankles.
The adorable doll has lovely amber colored sleep eyes, rosey cheeks and nicely detailed jointed arms and legs. When you move his legs, his head moves from side to side.
In EXCELLENT condition, he only has some dust from display, no damage or repair. He's as nice as they get, all original and complete. An awesome lad from Scotland to match your little Scottish lassie!

PAIR ANTIQUE INDONESIAN WOODEN ROD PUPPETS
I bought these many years ago and am clearing out some things in preparation to selling my home this spring or summer.
These are Indonesian wooden rod puppets made in Java in Indonesia. They are wood and hand painted and wear traditional cloth costumes.
I am unsure of their age, but the cloth appears very old and faded, the paint on their faces have some chipping but nothing to detract from their lovely handmade beauty.
One arm needs to be restring; easily remedied. One of the rods for the puppet is missing. Another easily remedied issue.
Some chipping present, though I'd still classify these as being in good vintage condition. You are buying both of them for one price.

CUTE! 50s 14in EFFANBEE JOINTED WALKER DOLL SLEEP EYES!
Effanbee walker doll! Looks to dat to the 1950s, maybe even late 1940s. I am not a doll expert so bear with me. She is about 14" tall, and her head turns from side to side when you move her legs. She is jointed, a white material that is probably a hard plastic, though it looks like compositiion to me.
She has straight legs, long sandy brown hair, sleep eyes, rooted eyelashes, a painted mouth. lightly blushed cheeks and knees, and she's marked "EFFANBEE" on the back of her torso and neck.
She wears a blue plaid pleated skirt and matching ruffled top with white and red boots that remind me of majorette or even cowboy boots. Very adorable!
She is in played with condition, could use a hairdo, and her body has expected soiling. I've not tried to clean her up. Her body is securely jointed and the sleep eyes and walkin mechanisms are in excellent condition. A very nice doll!

VINTAGE BISQUE BYE-LO STYLE BABY DOLL sgnd JOYCE BRODIE
Purchased locally in Atlanta, Georgia exclusively to the internet comes this terrific doll. Lovely indeed, the doll measures approximately 14 inches long ; I'm unsure of its age.
The doll is perhaps one of the most realistic and absolutely adorable ones I've ever owned. It reminds me of the Bye Lo dolls by Grace S. Putnam so sought after and rare. (bilo bi lo bi-lo bye lo bye-lo) He or she has a soft cloth hand made body with bisque porcelain head and hands. What makes it so wonderful is the miniature soft features this baby has. Peaceful blue eyes, light brown eyelashes and eyebrows, and kissable rosy cheeks and peach colored lips. He has a very realistic and to scale shaped head which has short baby hair and even has a little beauty mark or mole on his forhead. It is as if the doll was made to look like an actual baby...a living one!
The back of the doll's neck is signed "Joyce Brodie", though I am unfamiliar with this artist. Regardless, she is quite talented and even down to the little pink fingernails on his porcelain hands, attention to detail is superior to most.
The baby doll is an off white cloth and is wearing a white gauzy diaper and white stockings with white crocheted booties. Over the undergarments are a two piece outfit. Though it appears newer due to the modern fabric, it's a baby blue baptismal gown or fancy nightgown and is quite lovely with its lace accents and matching bonnet. Under the main dress or gown is another gown which is sleeveless with the same lace. The top gown (Christening Dress?) also has a small hand embroidered floral design on the front center.
In excellent condition, in my opinion, this baby doll is charming indeed! He is in pristine condition and free of any damage or repair. HE appears to have been displayed only, never played with, and would be great alone or with a collection of fine bisque dolls. All and all this is a classic doll, and if you have an idea as to the history of the artist Joyce Brodie, please share the information.

WONDERFUL VINTAGE HANDMADE CLOTH MAMMY DOLL
Charming vintage doll measuring about 26" long! This was purchased by a collector in the 1970s at a little antique shop and appears to be a one-of-a-kind artist doll from the 1950s or 60s.
The doll is a mammy doll with a brown cloth body and hand painted realistic facial features and a small afro. She wears a paisley print top, white cotton bloomers and a cream colored terry cloth skirt. She has red leatherette lace up shoes and realistically sewn hands and feet.
Interestingly enough, the woman has hand sewn breasts to give her a realistic look, and she is in excellent condition. Free of damage or repair, she comes from a smoke free environment and would make a terrific addition to any collection of black Americana or cultural dolls!

VINTAGE 1920s-30s DEPRESSION ERA BLACK SILK DOLL DRESS
What a terific doll dress. I purchased this with a few other charming doll clothes all dating back to the 1920s to the 1930s or 40s.
This is an adorable dress in black silk (at least it feels like silk...could be rayon I guess!) with pale pink pinstriping. It's nicely hand made and appears to be non-commercial. The shoulder span is approximately 6.5 inches across with short sleeves and it's about 9.75" long. It buttons down the center with three pretty clear glass buttons that are sparkly and in excellent and secure condition.
The dress has been laundered is from a smoke free environment, though I am not sure 100%. It's well made and has minimal, if any, wear. It's free of any damage or repair! All and all a wonderful vintage dress waiting for a little flapper era composition doll to fit!
