1931 VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY COMMODORE ANNUAL YEARBOOK

This was a friend's father's yearbook from Vanderbilt University. His name was Walter Goode Pacshall. It's in good condition with some wavering on some of the pages.

Very cool art deco era graphics and artwork, cool fraternity pages, great for collectors.

Also, I have his dad's 1898 Vanderbilt yearbook (then it was called the Comet) available. Just ask.

3901

1939 GWTW MOVIE EDITION BOOK from ATLANTA Direct from my family's bookcases to the internet comes this wonderful edition of Gone With The Wind. This particular piece is a first edition of Mitchell's book after the release of the movie, and as an Atlantan native, I was lucky enough to have purchased it from a local who went to the premiere in December of 1939.

The book has the famous picture of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler on its cover as well as color photographs of movie stills inside. When you first open the book, hand written in pen is the following:

"The Premiere in Atlanta, Ga.
Friday, December 15, 1939
8:30 O'Clock

The book is not in great condition, though it is still presentable. The corners are somewhat dog-eared, and there is some slight discoloration on the pages. Despite these imperfections, however, the book is still highly collectible due to its history and the fact that it was the first motion picture edition!

4259

RARE US 1932 1st ED BRAVE NEW WORLD w DJ ALDOUS HUXLEY! This is the Doubleday Doran and Co., Garden City, 1932. Hardcover. Measures approximately 5¾" - 8" tall. First US edition, first printing. Navy blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and decorations on spine and front board. Some wear on spine cloth and board top edges but all gilt intact and bright; dustjacket with some edgewear. Front and back boards of the book do have some discoloration on the surface which does not extend to the interior of the book. Photos should illustrate the condition accurately. The gilt highlighting of the spine is bright. Book is tight and in good condition; I believe this dustjacket is called a Durafold mylar cover and it is in good condition for its age.

From what I could find on the internet, the US edition is much less common than the UK edition and the US limited issue of 250 de luxe copies which preceded it.

Please note that I am NOT a book dealer. This book has been my keeper for MANY years. I have not done anything to clean it up or restore it in any way. This is sold as is and I encourage you to ask questions if you have them PRIOR to bidding. I went to abe books and this particular edition sells for between $700 and $2000...Thanks!

3927

RARE! THE LOW BACK'D CAR by SAMUEL LOVER 1889 VICTORIAN From my own collection comes this somewhat rare Victorian poetry book by Samel Lover...what an appropriate name for an author of a book like this!

The book was initially published in 1891 and wsa published by J.B. Lippincott Company of Philadelphia. It has illustrative drawings by William (WM) Magrath. Also occasioanlly listed as "The Low Backed Car".

The book is in amazingly well preserved condition with a brown leatherette padded cover with embossed raised leaves, the leaf pattern a splendid design typical of fine Victoriana. It has gold gilt for the title "The Low Back'd Car", and the edges of each page has gold leaf as well.

The book has 12 illustrations, the original drawings engraved on wood by Chas (Charles) H. Reed. The 12 illustrations are each full page Typogravures.

The pages are in nice cndition with minimal if any foxing. The cover is also nicely preserved with some very minimal wear on the corners near the binding. The ver back inside of the cover has a small tear where teh edge of the page stuck to it...it's actually all there. In pen is a small written note that says this was purchased Feb 18th 1963 from the Lathrop home. Some minimal staining on some of the beginning and ending pages, but overall a great Victorian book worthy to be displayed with any collection of fine antique books!

RARE DATED 1928 GREEN CELLULOID PARROT MEMO BOOK Just back from an incredible international buying excursion, I will be listing some great items of jewelry and collectibles over the upcoming weeks (and months). I was lucky enough to acquire some terrific and diverse items sure to appeal to anyone wishing to expand their personal collections! Click on my other auctions to view more of the uncovered treasures exclusively for my online customers!

This is an absolute treasure!! Measuring 3 1/8" by 2 5/8", this miniature memo book or pad has an original calender in the back page dated 1928. Hand painted on the front is "MEMO" and in raised relief in the center is a colorful parrot (maybe a cockatiel or cockatoo? Some sort of tropical bird).

The book is made with two bright green celluloid sheets held together with two black celluloid rings and small looseleaf notebook paper in it. Most of it is unsued, though a few sheets are written in with pencil. The last page is a dated 1928 miniature calendar, though I couldn't find any advertising or publisher's mark.

In excellent condition, the nice little book is precious and free of damage or repair. It's in excellent condition with expected yellowing and minor wear to the paper, a little cleaning to the front (sticker residue) would be good. Slight warping from the passing of many years has occured, but nothing detracting! I haven't seen anything like this online, so don't miss a chance to make a great addition to your collection of celluloid or bird collectibles.

Click for more detail...
5442

RARE ANTIQUE 1883 1st EDITION GALAXY OF SONG LITHO BOOK This rare find has been in my private collection for years. I purchased it out of an estate in Atlanta in the late 1980s and have never seen anything quite like it since.

The book is dated 1883 and is 9 1/2" by 12". It's hard backed and has 330 pages, not including a delightful advertising section at the end.

To begin, the book is wonderfully illustrated from its front cover to the Victorian graphics at the end. The cover is blue with gold gilt in a detailed raised design. The busy designs repeat with a sunburst design across the top and a gold illustrated woman in proper Victorian attire. Across the cover is the following:

GALAXY OF SONG.
Popular Songs & their Composers

FAVORITE VOCALISTS & WELL KNOWN CONDUCTORS

When you turn to the title page, it is also marked "GALAXY OF SONG". Underneath that is "POPULAR SONGS, WITH COMPLETE ACCOMPANIMENTS FOR THE PIANO OR CABINET ORGAN AND THEIR COMPOSERS." Under that is "FAVORITE VOCALISTS AND WELL-KNOWN CONDUCTORS." Then is a small graphic logo of a little dog (bulldog I think), then "COPYRIGHT,1883, BY THOS. HUNTER."

The book is a treasure trove of late Victorian songs and biographies of their composers. Each songwriter has an incredible stone lithographed portrait, followed by a section of bigraphical sketches, then the actual songs and music. The portraits are of a quality suitable for framing, but I feel that to tear up the book would be a sin. They are highly detailed stone lithographs and are only done on one side of the paper.

The book starts with portraits of the women of this era. There are about 64 in all, about half of them women. The first page shows a picture of Adelina Patti along with a newspaper clipping about her. There are so many wonderful illustrations, I will list as many as I can.

Included composers:

Adelina Patticenter
Christine Nilsson
Etelka Gerster
Sofia Scalchi
Annie Louise Cary
Eugenie Pappenheim
Clara Louise Kellogg
Pauline Lucca
Lillian Russell

Other names include Abbott, Winston, Sembrich, Roze, Thursby, Albani, Hauk, Valleria, Trebelli, Van Zandt, Osgood, Glenn, Geistinger, Winant, Beebe, Aimee, Juch, Campanini, Whitney, Santley, Henschel, Galassi, Capoul, Carleton, Karl, Zerrahn, Thomas, Damrosch, Rosa, Arditi, Gilmore, Gounod, Gabriel, Sainton-Dolby, Sullivan, Faure, Pinsuti, Abt, Blumenthal, Randegger, Cowen, Wellings, Buck, Tosti, Molloy, Gatty, Roeckel, Diehl, Mattei, Adams, Barri, Hatton, Sudds, Geibel, and Huntley.

Following are arrangements for about 120 wonderful old songs after bigraphical sketches of each composer. The book is simply incredible! I've never seen such a grouping of women like this, or composers for that matter. It's in remarkable condition for its age, though it does show wear. The edges are worn but the graphics are still vibrant and unfaded. Many of the pages are coming away from its binding also, and there's a place where the newspaper clipping and pin have turned the page dark.

With about 64 illustrations and over a 100 songs, this rare item is sure to excite the serious collector!
