Just in from a local collection exclusively to the internet comes this unique foreign doll. The original owner was a woman who passed away in 1996...I am selling this for her husband, who told me that his wife's aunt brought the doll over from France in 1940. She NEVER played with the doll...only displayed it like the treasure it is! Lovely indeed, the doll measures approximately 19 inches long and would date to the late 1930s to 1940.
The doll is absolutely adorable! She has a composition head with molded hair and her facial features are hand painted, complete with blushed cheeks and pouty lips. Her mouth is open with realistic little teeth inside. This little French gem is straw filled, and she has cloth arms and legs. I am not sure if her appendages are original or not, as they are not straw filled like the rest of her. I do know, however, that if they are not original, they were added before she was brought over from Europe.

She is wearing a hand beaded bonnet and an awesome beige satin and green brocade dress which has been trimmed with lovely flowered fabric and lace. Underneath her dress she still wears her slip, also trimmed with a gold lace.
Her head is sewn onto her body and on the back of her neck in raised letters and numbers is "FRANCE" and below that "40". She has sleep eyes set into her head.
In very nice condition, this baby doll is charming indeed! Her composition head is without cracks or repairs and her outfit is bright and apparantly original. Her eyes have fallen back into her head, unfortunately, but a competant doll repair person should have no trouble rectifying that small problem. Her legs and arms are in perfect condition..rips or detachments. Her bonnet has a few beads which have come out, but this in no way detracts or warrants concern or repair. Make sure to click on my other auctions to see the other French doll from this same collection. Surely a welcomed addition to the most advanced of collections, why not add this one to yours today?
