Jeane Litchfield is a well respected gemologist and appraisor and has been in business for decades. She is certified with the DGG, FGA, and GG, according to the paperwork.
The ring is about a size 9, I estimate, but can be easily sized by a competant jeweler due to the simplicity of the shank. A ring guard is attached at the moment, but is removeable.
Appraised September 15, 1992 for $5995.00, here is the description written on the apprasal:
The top of the ring measures approx. 13 to 8.5x4mm and features a quasi stirrup motif. The large round full cut diamond is bead set in an eighteen (18) karat white gold square mount with a milligrain edge. This section of the ring wraps around to fit like a stirrup to the other side of the ring. There is a tapered 15x8 to 6mm white gold insert that is bead set with three (3) round full cut diamonds that taper down the shank. The remainder of the ring is yellow gold. The inside of the tapered 8.2 to 12.5mm shank is stamped GRF 14K. Acid testing shows the metal to be fourteen (14) karat yellow gold and eighteen (18) karat white gold. The ring is cast and hand fabricated. DWT: 5.53
More details are as follows from the appraisal:
One (1) gent's size 6 (*NOTE* this is larger than a size 6...perhaps she meant size 9) fourteen (14) karat yellow and white gold ring circa 1950s-60s featuring:
Three (3) round full cut diamonds for an approx. total weight of 0.32 carat.
average color G-H
average clarity VS1
One (1) round full cut diamond that measures approx. 6.25x 3.62mm and weighs by formula approx. .86 carat color J clarity VVS2 table 57.6% depth 57.9% girdle hidden by mounting culet pointed flourescence inert Finish polish very good symmetry good
Please note: the diamonds in this piece were graded to the best of my ability while mounted and the weights estimated by formula.
Well, that about sums it up! The ring is awesome, retro modern, excellent condition, and absolutely beautiful! NO reserve and an opening bid at an ultra wholesale price! Current appraisal, if done today, would be at least $7500 to $10,000 in my opinion. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind hand cast artist made vintage treasure!
