Purchased in an estate. Solid brass, stamped "CHINA", dates to the early 1900s, pre 1920s. Nice heavy weight, beautiful enamelled raised relief scene of Chinese men carrying a little people-carrier type of box. The lid has an orange knob at the top that appears to be a stone of some sort, not glass. It may be a type of jade, I've been told.
The little decorated lidded box measures about 4" high and nearly 2 1/2" across. It has a lovely warm patina which shows the detail of the scene nicely. It has 3 short little brass feet on the bottom.
It is in very good vintage condition with the only exception being that the orange knob at the top needing to be reaattached. This is easily done with either a little solder or epoxy. One more small thing to note is that the inner lip has a split which does not show in the least or affect the overall look.
Rare and wonderful Asian antique! |
