From a local Atlanta estate comes this rare piece of Made in Japan porcelain dating to the art deco era of the 1920s or 30s. Prettier than most lustre ware that I've seen, the sugar shaker or Muffineer is stamped on the bottom "ELITE" and "MADE IN JAPAN" with a wreath with the letter "B" inside. Beautifully shaped with elegant scalloped lines, the brilliantly hand painted piece measures about 7" tall.
The large shaker is a decorative piece that is as functional as it is lovely. With bright orange and white with yellow, orange, green and blue flowers and art deco designs it has a gold painted top and what appears to be its original cork stopper in the bottom.
In excellent condition, this can be used as a vanity piece if desired, holding talcum powder, potpourri, or as a hatpin holder. As a kitchen piece, it can hold powdered sugar, cinnamon or otherspices, or simply grouped with other Japanese pottery or art deco items. It has natural imperfections as would be expected in a piece of its type, but it is free of any damage, chips, nicks, repaint or repairs. Any imperfections on the piece are origiinal to the piece, and it only has some very minor rubbin at the gold accented top, nothing detracting or devaluing. |
