You are bidding on one of the prettiest dessert sets I've ever had. A keeper for quite some time, this 7 piece set consists of a handled 9 1/2" platter with 6 matching 6 1/2" dessert plates. I estimate this to date back to the flapper era art deco 20s or 30s.
The set is brilliantly hand painted and each plate is marked on the back with a green stamp as follows:
HAND PAINTED
T T (in diamond shaped boxes)
MADE IN JAPAN
The designs are quite lovely and in amber, green, brown, and purple hues. The rims are each done in an orangey amber with little black polka dots. They have a somewhat airbrushed quality to them, and the cutout sections for the platter's little handles are nicely scalloped.
This lovely set is in excellent condition with very little paint loss, if at all. They appear unused and are free of damage or repair. Imperfections are all original and indicative of hand painted one of a kind pieces. I am not familiar with the "T and T" hallmark and welcome any information that may be shared as to the origin of this Japanese company. |
