This is a beautiful hand blown and hand painted antique glass water pitcher with a wonderful ruffled lip and exquisite enamelled raised decorations. It measures about 9 1/2" high and has a diameter of 6 1/2" at the top. I'm unsure of its exact age and I am not an expert on antique glassware, but everything about this piece makes me think it's quite old, dating to the late 1800s to early 1900s' Victorian Art Nouveau era, most likely.
The pitcher has been hand blown, evident by the design and pontil mark at the bottom. The handle is hand applied, and the hand painted decorations are in raised white enamelled leaves that look like grape leaves to me, and gold gilding around the top of the ruffled lip and draping around the sides. Subtle lines go down the sides of the piece vertically, giving this a classic and elegant appeal.
The piece looks perfect, though it has one major apology to be made keeping this from being mint. A crack down the side where the handle is attached makes this a lovely display rather than a functional utensil. This may have happened 100 years ago, I'm not sure, but I've included a picture to show the damage. Despite this damage, this lovely piece of classic Victoriana would make a great floral centerpiece with a dried or solk flower arrangement. If perfect, this would be appraised at over $100, so ask questions first should you be interested in this for a fraction of that cost.
Price reflects condition...a wonderful shelf piece or vase for a dried flower arrangement. |
