About the size of a netsuke, this hand carved solid pre-ban ivory carving is a miniature statue of Buddha. I'm unsure, but I believe this is a Chinese Buddha....I suppose it could be Japanese, though and I welcome any information you may care to share about this.
Apprx 2 inches high, the sculpture is incredibly well detailed and has a lovely rich century old patina. The natural ivory graining can easily be seen, especially on the back. On the bottom is an artist's signature.
The piece has some small age hairlines that do not detract or devalue, in my opinion. There is a small nick on one of his feet and a chip on the base on the back. Otherwise, it has a truly lovely look in good condition.
