From a recent estate purchase comes this distinctive antique mid century Mexican silver signed brooch from the 1950s or so. Measuring about 2" in diameter, this round pin is signed with several sought after hallmarks. It is stamped "MEXICO" and "TAXCO MEXICO 925". It also has intials that are difficult to discern... "CPR"? Plus there is an EAGLE mark with a "3" in it sure.
The brooch is a circle shape with brass overlay in an Aztec inspired zig zag retro geometric design over the sterling silver. Inlaid around the brass is a rich blue that appears to be sodalite with perhaps a little turquoise, azurite, or malachite mixed in. I am unsure, but it looks to be predominantly a lapis blue. It's truly a striking piece!
In excellent condition, the brooch is free of damage or repair and is functional and secure. It has a nice safety clasp and would be a great compliment to any collection of tribal, Southwestern, South American or Mexican jewelry! |
