Direct from my family's bookcases to the internet comes this wonderful edition of Gone With The Wind. This particular piece is a first edition of Mitchell's book after the release of the movie, and as an Atlantan native, I was lucky enough to have purchased it from a local who went to the premiere in December of 1939.
The book has the famous picture of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler on its cover as well as color photographs of movie stills inside. When you first open the book, hand written in pen is the following:
"The Premiere in Atlanta, Ga.
Friday, December 15, 1939
8:30 O'Clock
The book is not in great condition, though it is still presentable. The corners are somewhat dog-eared, and there is some slight discoloration on the pages. Despite these imperfections, however, the book is still highly collectible due to its history and the fact that it was the first motion picture edition! |
