I call this little baby dish "Early Bird Gets the Worm". Dating to the early 1900s, probably 1920s or 30s, this nice heavy American Art Pottery feeding bowl measures about 7" in diameter and 1 3/8" tall/ It is old and has been lovingly used, no maker's mark on the bottom.
The dish is shaped like the early Roseville juvenile ware pieces that are so rare and sought after, and it is probably about the same age. It's white with a thin blue pinstripe around the lip and a decal of a baby chick in a pastoral setting in the center. The little chicken is looking at the ground at a little worm. Behind the bird are little purple flowers that look like violets.
The little bowl or plate has a hairline, as shown in the pictures, on the lip, plus some little nicks around the edge and on the bottom. The bottom of the bowl show scratches where some little tyke certainly enjoyed his or her cereal. Despite this, the decal is still amazingly intact and truly endearing. Sold in AS FOUND condition, this is a warm and lovely collectible antique piece that wouold be great as part of a collection of baby feeding bowls and American Art pottery from the depression era. |
