This terrific Depression era corderoy cap was part of an estate from a farm in Iowa. The adorable model in the photo is my son who is NOT included in this auction, though he IS available for possible movie contracts and sport's endorsements. :~) (Our agent can do lunch with YOUR agent) I'd estimate this to be around the equivalent of a size 6 7/8 hat size based on the fit on my son.
The hat or cap is made of a thick brown cotton corderoy material and has a nice little brim. The inside has a nice plaid flannel lining with some sort of very soft natural black fur to cover the ears and back of the head. In the center above the brim is a small black and brown grosgrain ribbon that's somewhat threadbare.
This is a rare little find that appears handmade and in incredible condition considering the fact that it appears to be from the depression era. I imagine it belonged to a little boy who grew up on a midwest farm. It's definitely a little musty from its many years of storage, but it's in better than expected condition and free of rot or damage. A good cleaning by a professional would be ideal. |
