Perfect for both men and women, this retro style Bulova is a classic 1930s or 40s watch. Though the dial is square, this rivals the ever sought after and reproduced tank watch of the same era.
The watch measures about 3/4" square for its face with a case about 1 1/4" by 1 1/8" including the art deco side stairsteps and the lugs. Set in a yellow gold filled with a stainless back, it has a lovely 17 jewel movement marked "BULOVA WATCH CO." and "10AE". The inside of the back cover is marked "MASTER STAINLESS BACK".
The dial is in superb condition, appearing to be near mint and probably original. The bottom right corner does bend backwards just a bit, but it is only noticeable when out of the case and mentioned only for the sake of being thorough. It has a sweep second hand at 6 O' Clock and has 3 faux ruby bagettes for the 12, 3, and 9. The rest of the numbers are represented with tiny round faceted faux diamonds. A wonderful retro design!
The case shows very little wear or scratches. Very nice, and even the expandable band, stamped "Bretton", is in excellent condition, though it could be easily replaced if desired.
The only issue with this watch is that it is not in working order. The winder turns freely, but it doesn't run. So, you are buying this watch as it is, and I've been told by two local watch shops that repairing it shouldn't be much of an issue...in fact, if I wore yellow gold, I'd keep this one, as it's a real beauty! |
