Purchased at a farm auction in West Virginia nearly 20 years ago, this old primitive basket measures about 16" by 12.5" and is 6.5" high without the handle and about 14" including the bentwood handle. I am unsure of its exact age but I estimate it dates to the 1920s to the mid 1900s.
The basket appears to be either oak or hickory...but please bear with me...I am NOT an expert on old farm antiques or wood. It is beautifully hand woven and has a great look to it. I was told that it is an egg basket, but I think it could have just as feasibly been an apple basket as well.
In excellent condition, the basket is free of damage or repair and has a nice aged appearance. A nice addition to any collection of country collectibles and primitiives, there is no reserve and an opening bid of my cost nearly 2 decades ago! Don't miss this one. |
