Little Squeegy Bug 1945 Child's Book 1st Edition Mint in Mailer
This heavy paper cover child's book is a scarce unstated first edition, first printing. This particular copy is exceptionally rare, as it is in mint condition in the original mailing envelope from Aunt Mary Birthday Clubs of America.
The book has a copyright date of 1945 with no publisher information - this first printing was self-published. The Aunt Mary photography club paperwork sheds light on how this edition of the book was marketed - the Martins obviously sold their remainder copies to the Aunt Mary Company after republication of the book in hardcover by Tellwell Press, and the club used the books as purchase premiums. The mailing envelope is dated 1951.
Little Squeegy Bug is the tale of a little firefly, which was re-written by the author a few years ago with an updated and more politically correct story line (ie: removing mentions of the gun in the bumblebee's tail). The illustrations in this edition were done by Bernard Martin, the author's brother, and they are filled with old fashioned charm. The book measures 5-1/2" by 8-3/8" and is unpaginated (28 pages).
The book is of course in perfect condition and did not appear to have ever been opened until I took the photographs. Included are all the brochures, booklets, membership card, and Parents' Magazine advertisements that were found in the mailer with the book.
