5554

Eames Era Mirrored Shadow Box Wall Display Shelf White and Gold Back in the 1950s and early 60s, it was hard to find a home that didn't have a shadowbox display shelf on the wall. This one is quite attractive with a gold-veined mirror back with wooden frame and shelves painted creamy white with gold accents along the outer frame molding edges. The shadow box measures 28 by 24 inches. It extends five inches from the wall and has 3" deep inner shelves.

The shelf is in very good condition with no damage and little wear. The upper and lower inner wood panels (shelf and top pieces) have a couple of small nicks or scratches to the paint, and there is some minor chipping and wear to the corners and edges, none of which will be at all noticeable when hung on the wall. The back top has two sturdy metal hinged loops for hanging. A wonderfully retro piece of Eames Era wall decor to display your Mid-Century treasures. This item is too large to safely ship internationally and does not qualify for free shipping.

6533

Syroco Wood Western Horse Head Tie or Belt Rack This Western style wood composition belt or tie rack was made by Syroco (Syracuse Ornamental Company) in the late 1930s to 1940s. The top decoration is a horse's head in a horseshoe shaped frame. The entire piece has a carved, antique wood appearance. The 12 metal hangers are secure and swing to both sides without problem. Two holes at the lower corners enable you to mount the rack on a closet wall or back of a door. The original black and gold foil label reading "Syroco Wood, Made In U.S.A. Syracuse, N.Y." is present. The back has some scuffing and wear. The front looks fine. An ideal vintage gift for the Western, horse, or cowboy fan in your life, male or female.

1841

Old West Pioneer Folk Art Chalkware Wagon Train Wall Plaque This wonderful folk art chalkware or plaster wall hanging came from a local Mormon Utah estate. It depicts a family of Mormon pioneers (or at least it is assumed they are Mormons) crossing the mountains in their covered wagons. One wagon with oxen and family members are depicted in high relief in the foreground, and you can make out other covered wagons and horses in the background.

The plaque is 16-1/4" wide by 8-12" high, all hand formed and detailed, not mold-poured. The paint is somewhat worn at the high points, mainly the leaves of the trees. There are some insignificant minor scratches and rubs, and a couple of shallow flakes or chips at the very top edge. The only noticeable chip is a 1/4" by 3/8" flake along the right edge, visible in the first and last photos. There is considerable age patina to the paint.

This interesting piece of old West Mormon folk art dates to at least the 1930s, if not earlier.

Circa: 1930s

Chased Copper Mayan Aztec Calendar Plate or Charger This solid copper charger or wall plate has a hand chased Aztec calendar design tooled in high relief in the center. It measures 11" diameter and has a ring hanger on the back. There are no marks as to maker or origin that I can find. Upon close examination you can see three slight bends or bumps to the rim area of the soft copper. The patina is a little uneven as shown.

6538

Set of 3 Convex Dome Bubble Glass Floral Print Pictures A set of three old fashioned bubble glass flower print wall pictures, each 4-1/2" diameter. One is a vase of carnations, another peonies or poppies and larkspur, the last is a bouquet of pink roses, blue bachelor buttons and other flowers. Each wall hanging has a cardboard backing and wire hanger. The print backgrounds are pale yellow - whether that's from age or their original color, I'm not sure. All three are in very good vintage condition with no damage.

Art Nouveau Spelter Wall Candle Sconce A beautiful single Victorian candle sconce in heavy spelter metal from the Art Nouveau era. It's 15 inches tall, depth from the wall to the candle bobeche is 8-1/2". At some point it was painted white, but the original finish appears to have been gilded. The narrow sconce has a lady's face in high relief at the center focal point, the candle cup is ornately engraved with floral motifs. There is some natural age wear to the paint as shown but the new owner may wish to completely strip it and restore the original finish. There are no breaks or repairs to the metal.

6897

Set 4 Gold and Red Diamond 1960s Syroco Flower Plaques A set of four 1960s, possibly early 1970s gold gilt floral themed wall plaques by Syroco. They look and feel like carved wood but I believe they are a plastic and wood resin composition. The plaques are diamond shape, 17 inches long by 10 inches wide each. Each represents a different flower: roses, holly, chrysanthemums, and cherry or apple blossoms. The plaques are backed with red velvet or velour material, have hangers at the tops, and are in excellent condition with no damage.

Brass Butterflies Candle Sconce Eames Era Wall Sculpture This pretty brass wall sculpture with built in triple candle holders is from the late 1950s to mid 1960s. 24" high by 13" wide overall, six dimensional metal butterflies with cutout wings seem to flutter freely around the three brass taper sconces placed at staggered heights, though they're all securely attached. Click for more detail...
6938

Antique Carved Wood Black Forest Style Thermometer Barometer I'm not sure if this antique European (probably German) carved wood wall thermometer would be considered Black Forest or not, as the design is not the typical rococo style. The shape and decoration have definite Arts and Crafts elements. The wood appears to be oak. The very dark finish is original. Measurements are 19-3/8" long by 6-1/4" wide.

The white porcelain enamel thermometer is marked for centigrade and Reaumur scale, an obsolete European unit of temperature measure. It works but I don't know how accurately. Note the wonderful spiral coiled thermometer bottom. The aneroid open face barometer has German or Dutch wording, I don't know whether it works. The beveled glass cover is original and undamaged. The wooden case is in excellent condition with only one scratch on the back. It has not been refinished. The only thing that might be considered a condition issue is that the thermometer plate slides a bit, exposing less than 1/8 of an inch of what looks like old paper behind it with columns of numbers (see picture 3).

7029

Antique Carved Wood Black Forest Thermometer Barometer White Paint This beautiful late 1800s to early 1900s Black Forest style carved wood wall thermometer has a high quality Danish barometer but was likely made in Germany. Made of mahogany, the flower and leaf hand carved frame has been painted white with gold trim. It think it was done long ago by a previous owner, the white paint is a little chippy and you can see the original very dark brown finish underneath. Overall measurements are 19-1/2" long by 8-3/4" wide.

The white porcelain enamel and glass thermometer is marked for centigrade and Reaumur scale, an obsolete European unit of temperature measure. The thermometer appears to work fine and accurately. The aneroid open face barometer is marked Cornelius Knudsen Kjobenhaven (Copenhagen). The Cornelius Knudsen Company was known for making very fine quality scientific instruments in the 1800s and early 1900s. The beveled glass cover is original and undamaged. The wooden frame is in excellent condition under the paint with no discernible cracks or chips.

7290

Craftsman Copper Arts and Crafts 14 Inch Charger Plate This 14" diameter hand wrought copper tray or plate is a beautiful example of the Arts & Crafts style of the Craftsman Company of Los Angeles and Laguna Beach California, also known as Craftsman Studios. The shading and light of the warm patina are by design, and the slightly peaked tool marks in the center form the shape of a rose. The back has a wall hanger and protective felt dots, and is marked with the hammer & anvil logo, with the words "Hand Made, Craftsman Co, 903".

The finish is in very good condition, just a few very minor surface marks to the lacquer finish are visible upon close inspection. One of the three felt dots on back is missing, no other issues to report.

Lovely Framed Needlepoint Seascape Cottages Scene This beautiful old needlepoint picture depicts a coastal village with houses or cottages on a wooded hill, waves lapping at the beach and a large windswept tree in the foreground. The needlework measures about 11-1/4" by 8-1/4" (inside dimensions of the frame). Outer dimensions are 16-3/4" by 14". It was mounted under glass in a nice oak and black frame. The mounting paper on the back side has a little wear and age, not much, but the front of the frame (and the stitchery inside) is in excellent condition with no damage.

5185

Tropical Island Caribbean Woman Tooled Copper Relief Framed Picture This vintage hand tooled embossed copper relief picture depicts a tropical island woman, presumably Jamaican or Carribean, with palm trees and tropical foliage in the background. The scantily clad lady wears a sarong and balances a basket of fruit on her head.

The picture is 8 by 10 inches, in a standard ribbed wooden frame that has been painted a copper color that closely matches the copper metal sheet. The artwork is very well done, an enormous amount of fine detail was given to the scene. You can see the muscles and curve of the woman's tummy, the flowered pattern on her skirt, even her toenails.

The frame is in decent, displayable condition with a wire hanger on back but it does have some scuffs to the paint and the inside of the glass looks like it needs to be cleaned. The tooled copper picture itself is in excellent condition.

6646

Topless Tropical Bathing Beauty Tooled Copper Relief Framed Picture This vintage hand tooled embossed copper relief picture depicts a topless woman lounging pin-up style beneath a tropical island palm tree, her flower lei tastefully arranged to suggest (but not fully show) frontal nudity. A seagull, clouds, water, and smaller islands with palms are in the detailed copper scene which has a flat black painted background. The artwork is signed with the artist's initials, NB.

The picture is mounted in an American made 9-3/4" by 12" green and black marbled-effect plastic frame with gold trim (no glass). The scene is attractive and well done. There are two very small scuff marks to the black paint in the corner above the initials where copper shows through, otherwise the picture is in excellent vintage condition.

Set 3 Vintage Chalkware Flower Plaques These vintage heavy chalkware or plaster stylized arrowhead and diamond shape floral wall hanging plaques are painted in a light brown wood tone shade for the frames, and gold gilt for the flowers. One depicts a poinsettia blossom with berries, another chrysanthemum blooms, and the third has roses. Each plaque is 13-1/4" high by 8-3/4" wide and has a sturdy hanger molded into the upper back. There are no chips, nicks, or scratches visible from the front. The rose plaque has a shallow scrape on the bottom corner which is flat and cannot be seen from the sides or front. I believe these wall decorations date to the 1940s or 1950s. I think they'd be very pretty repainted in more realistic bright or pastel colors.

7280

Set 2 Hand Painted Bird Wall Plates in Black Wire Frames A pair of nostalgic, very retro wall decorations from the 1950s that those of us "of a certain age" will surely recognize - we all knew someone who had a set of these on the wall. The two 5-1/2" diameter porcelain plates have hand painted bird scenes - a black and red bird framed by green leaves and tree blossoms, and a colorful green, yellow and orange bird perched among blossoming branches and cherries or crab apples. The backs of the plates are marked Hand Painted and were probably made in Japan.

Both plates are framed in black wire looped flower shapes about 8-3/4" diameter. The frame belonging to the colorful bird has one loop that is slightly out of round, otherwise they're both in good vintage condition.
