Deep Purple Victorian Porcelain Mug or Stein with Hand Painted Plums
A tall unmarked Victorian porcelain beer mug or stein with a dramatic hand painted plums decoration. The color below the fruit is what I'd call an indigo or cobalt purple, very deep and dark. It's hard to see with the heavy, dark glaze, but the mug blank has in-mold feather filigree designs at the base and handle, and there's a subtle paneled effect below the rim. About 6-1/4" high by 4-3/8" diameter at the bottom swell, 3" diameter at the rim.
There is some light all-over crazing, which is only visible on the unpainted and very light colored areas, and then only upon very close examination. Other than a pinprick size glaze skip or flake to the front center of the design opposite the handle, there is no damage or wear to the mug or the painted design.
Circa: 1900

Gesundheit Yellow Ware Beer Mug or Stein, 1930s Advertising Premium
An authentic 1930s yellowware tavern beer stein advertising Gesundheit brand beer, which was produced by the Neustadtl Stroudsburg Brewing Company of Stroudsburg Pennsylvania from the end of Prohibition in 1933 until the company's demise in 1937. It's 5" tall and holds 16 ounces.
I have two Gesundheit mugs. One one side is a relief scene of the old city hall in Munich. One is labeled underneath the scene Atles Rathaus Muenchen (wording does not appear on the other mug). On the other side is an old fashioned bearded gentleman with a Gesundheit stein in his hand. The underside has the incised mark "Compliments of Gesundheit" encircling the words "Free Premium".
Both steins have fine, allover crazing typical of this style and age of glazed pottery. They have the usual and common manufacturing imperfections including tiny glaze nicks and misses. One has a small chip at the base, the other has a glaze fleabite at the rim and a larger glaze flaw on the back. No cracks or major damage to either mug. Price is for each.
Circa: 1933 -1937
Country of Origin: US
Manufacturer: Neustadtl Stroudsburg Brewing
