781
Painted Pyrography Framed Plaque or Tray, Dutch Couple Holland Scene This old pyrographic plaque is framed like a tray and may in fact be a tray. It has a great detailed scene of a Dutch couple walking along a canal with fields, windmills, a farmhouse, and a sailboat in the distance. The design has painted highlights in semi-opaque (water or milk based) primary colors. I believe the out-of-place looking marks in the upper left corner of the scene may be a signature, but I can't make out what it says.

The tray has wear consistent with age and some fading of the design in the upper right corner. There are a few tiny white specks on the wood. These do flake off but I will let the new owner determine how best to remove them. One short side or handle of the jointed frame will come loose if pulled and should be reattached. The plaque is 15-1/2" by 9".

Circa: 1910 - 1920

4897
Antique Folk Art Tole Painted Wooden Chest or Box Wonderful 1800s wooden chest or box with tole painted folk art floral decoration. The box is 9 inches wide by 7 inches high by 7 inches deep. The inside dimensions are about 6-1/2" by 8". The front has a hinged clasp for locking. the deep 5-sided lid is hinged to the box bottom. The inside is painted reddish brown.

Each of the nine box and lid panels is hand painted with an Early American or Pennsylvania Dutch style flower motif. The black background paint is bordered by thin red and white lines and gold gilt at each panel. There is some paint wear and flaking as you can see, mostly to the front and top of the box, but it's actually not in bad condition for a toleware box of this age.

Circa: 1800s

Manufacturer: Unsigned American Folk Art

3944
Ornate Chrysanthemums Scrollwork Syroco Wood Trinket Box This beautiful old fancy trinket box is genuine Syroco Wood, made by Syracuse Ornamental Company. It's made of a molded wood fiber and resin composition, and has the highly detailed look of hand-carved wood. The color is a beautiful shade of redwood. It measures a little over 6" by 4", the interior is about 4" by 3" by 1" deep. It can hold jewelry, cigarettes, coins, whatever you wish and was probably marketed as a dresser or vanity piece (not quite the right size to be a true cigarette box).

The entire outside of the box has a lovely, ornately carved wood effect. The lid is completely decorated with scrollwork, flourishes, chrysanthemums and other flowers in an Art Nouveau style. Little brown felt dots on the bottom protect your furniture from scuffs and scratches. The gold and black foil Syroco Wood label on the underside dates the box to the 1940s, perhaps early 1950s. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches.

5071
Scarce Tell City Copper and Maple Bun Warmer A rare old dining accessory made by the famous Tell City Chair Company, this maple and wrought copper piece is a bun warmer for serving hot rolls or biscuits. The dowel-attached copper lid opens and closes with the thumb release above the wooden handle to keep the bread warm. The bun warmer is about 14" long including the handle by 7" wide by 4-1/2" high at the back.

The bun warmer shows signs of use and wear but no damage. The hammered copper top has a spotty patina and there are scuffs and scratches to the wood finish, plus one black mark on the side which may be ink - all should be evident in the photos. The inside is in good condition. The original paper label that was on the bottom is gone now but it would have been marked Pattern 3104, 48 Andover finish, Tell City Chair Co. Tell City Indiana.

Manufacturer: Tell City Chair Co.

5439
Large 37 by 20 Inch Redwood Burl Slab for Clock This gorgeous redwood burl clock slab measures 37 inches wide by 20" tall at the highest point and is about 2-1/2" thick (thickness varies depending on the slant of the cut but the top and bottom of the slab are flat). It is sealed and finished with a shiny lacquer or epoxy coating and is pre-drilled for a clock with a battery operated clock movement mounted to the back. All you need to do is add the numerals and hands. I'm including a glittered goldtone 7" diameter numeral dial setup with the clock, but you're free to use one of your own choosing if you prefer. Dials, numerals, and hands are readily available at just about any craft supply retailer. The condition is excellent though at certain angles you can see the shadow of previous Roman clock numerals in the coating about 5" below the center hole - another light coat of lacquer will remove them if your clock face doesn't cover them.

4538
Souvenir Yellowstone Cedar Wood Trinket or Powder Box with Hand Painted Scene This nice old turned and polished cedar wood trinket, jewelry, or powder box was a souvenir of Yellowstone National Park. It measures 5-1/4" diameter and has a white Bakelite knob lid finial. Above the knob is painted in script Yellowstone Park, below it is a hand painted scene of a bear with mountains, grass, and blue sky in the background. The inside of the box is lined with heavy parchment. The box itself is in very good shape with no chips, cracks, or serious wear, but the painted areas have signs of age. The word Yellowstone is a bit faded and the bear scene has a ring or bubble mark in the lower right corner - I'm not sure what caused it - perhaps something spilled on it. There are a couple of tiny nicks on the edge of the lid, nothing noticeable.

3942
Blond Wood Serving Tray with Hand Painted Deer in Forest Scene This blond wooden serving tray was made in Japan in the 1950s. It measures 17" by 11" and has metal reinforced corners and raised sides with carry handles at each end. The railing is attached with wooden pegs, the holes on the underside nicely finished with putty filling. The surface has a hand painted scene of a buck and doe running through the woods with bare birch trees at either side and patches of snow on the ground. The artwork isn't signed but there's a foil label on the back which reads "Made For Standard Specialty Co. Japan".

The tray has a thin crack to the wood at one side (see closeup) but it doesn't affect the stability or functionality at all. The finish is in good condition with no scratches, stains, or noticeable wear. I picked this piece up on a buying trip in rural Montana, and couldn't help but notice what a perfect setting it was for a tray such as this. It would look great in a country, cabin or lodge-themed room.
