5319
Art Nouveau Spelter Wall Candle Sconce A beautiful single Victorian candle sconce in heavy spelter metal from the Art Nouveau era. It's 15 inches tall, depth from the wall to the candle bobeche is 8-1/2". At some point it was painted white, but the original finish appears to have been gilded. The narrow sconce has a lady's face in high relief at the center focal point, the candle cup is ornately engraved with floral motifs. There is some natural age wear to the paint as shown but the new owner may wish to completely strip it and restore the original finish. There are no breaks or repairs to the metal.

Circa: 1900

3400
Antique Copper Bed Warmer Bedwarmers or hot water bottles were used prior to the early 20th century, when homes were fire heated by hearth or wood stove. This one is solid copper, round and flat, over 11" diameter by about 2-1/2" high. It has soldered, folded seam construction and the original brass ringed screw cap. A few minor dings at the center on both sides, but actually in quite a bit better shape than most bed warmers of this style and age. The many light reflections in my photos probably make the copper appear damaged with odd color variations, but the coloring is even with a light patina.

Circa: Early 1900s

5395
German Green Child's Cup with Children at Table Scene This charming turn of the century German porcelain child's cup or mug probably came from a toy tea or dinner set. The larger size may indicate it was actually meant as a child's drinking cup. It's 2-3/8" high, embossed with scrolly designs and has a green airbrushed rim and fancy handle. The front is decorated with a decaled scene of a little Victorian girl and baby with two puppies reaching for a bowl of fruit at the table. The cup is marked Germany with a number and is in excellent condition for its age - no damage, very little wear.

Napco Bone China Miniature Christmas Girl Figurine A sweet little 2 inch mini Napco bone china figurine of a little Christmas holding a lantern. She wears a red hood, red bow at her neck, red boots, and green mittens. Green spaghetti trim fur or fringe decorates the hem of her coat. Missing her original foil Napcoware label, otherwise she's in excellent condition, and such a cute expression on her face!

Click for more detail...
4952
Edwardian Copper Spirit Kettle with Stand An antique solid copper spirit kettle with alcohol burner and iron tripod hanging stand, late Victorian or Edwardian period (1895 to 1910). It's European in origin, probably German or British.

The tea pot or kettle has a wooden handle with worn black paint and twisted copper stationary handle brackets. The 19" twisted iron stand has a graceful acanthus leaf form at the top and decorative copper rosettes on the legs. The kettle is about 6" diameter, 8-1/2" wide to the tip of the gooseneck spout (measurement does not include handle width).

The covered burner is intact with a few minor dings on the body, very small. The stand has some light rust, mostly to the burner holder. The kettle has a few shallow, barely noticeable dings to the body on one side only, near the spout. They look as old as the kettle itself, with no disturbance of the patina. There are no scratches to the finish, just a slight dullness to the copper finish resulting from a lack of dusting.

The mark on the bottom of the kettle depicts an eagle above 16/8 over L. in a circle. I'm not familiar with the eagle mark, but the 12/8 L. probably means 1-1/2 liters, which is the teapot's capacity (the metric system was in use by the major nations of continental Europe by 1900).

Circa: 1895 - 1910

3330
Antique Primitive Hammered Copper Water Kettle This primitive hammered copper water or tea kettle is close to 200 years old - produced in the first half of the 1800s, probably in Northern Europe - Sweden, Norway, Finland or Denmark. It's very heavy, solid copper with a bronze handle, and completely hand made. It has numerous dents and dings, but the only glaring dent is to the base of the gooseneck spout. The spout has been repaired where it joins to the body - more than once, from the looks of it.

The inside is unlined and not suitable for use, but the original strainer piece is still inside the base of the spout, indicating that it was made and used as a real water kettle, not a decorative piece. The style of lid finial and the way the handle is attached are indicative of Scandinavian origin. The kettle is just over 8" wide from the spout to the opposite side, and about that high with the handle in the raised position.

Circa: 1850
