6967

Yellowstone Park Souvenir Metal License Plate Topper Metal license plate toppers for automobiles were used to advertise insurance companies, gas stations, car dealerships, and local businesses among other things. The type sold as souvenirs, such as this one, are less common and very collectible. This is a rare painted steel souvenir topper from Yellowstone National Park depicting Old Faithful geyser. It measures 10" diameter by 4-5/8" high on the tall end and has two mounts, one on each lower side. A nail hole was punched in the top long ago for wall display.

The topper looks like it spent many years riding below the grill of its host car and does have some wear. The Yellowstone National Park lettering is still bright and bold but the white geyser graphics are faded and the word Old is chipped off. There is some light rust at the upper plate line and around the mounting holes but overall it's in pretty good condition considering age, use, and long term weather exposure.

Circa: 1920s - 1940s

5696

Mammy and Chef Black Americana Salt and Pepper Shakers Set These figural Black Americana salt and pepper shakers were made in Japan in the 1950s and have the original blue and white paper Japan labels. They are a Mammy and Pappy chef couple, just over 3" high. Each has a banner decal on the front that says "Souvenir of Pocatello Ida". The decals are in good condition but they can be removed if you prefer. The paint and finish are very good on both shakers, there is no damage, and the cork stoppers are intact.

1960s Straw Stuffed Bear on Leash Toy, Yellowstone Park Souvenir Almost any child of the late 1950s and 1960s who visited Yellowstone National Park should recognize this stuffed toy bear cub - it was a popular child's souvenir at the park and in West Yellowstone gift shops for a good ten years.

Stuffed with straw, the 4 inch high plush fur black bear has a red plastic collar attached to a metal chain leash with red plastic hand loop. The original red cardboard string tag is still attached to the collar reading "Souvenir of Yellowstone Park" on the front. A Japan label is sewn into the back leg seam. The bear has one glass eye, one plastic. This isn't noticeable because they're very similar and the eyes are positioned so that only one is visible at a time. Excellent condition, the little cub looks like he was never played with at all - no tears, wear, or damage.

5459

Yellowstone Old Faithful Souvenir Celluloid Sewing Tape Measure This antique souvenir celluloid tape measure has a realistic scene of the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park on both sides. The sides of the case are silver or silverplate. The cloth tape goes to at least 48" inches (I was afraid to pull it out any farther once I met slight resistance) and is marked Made In U.S.A. The tape is retractable and the mechanism works fine. There is very slight rub wear to one side of the tape where it rested on a surface, just a loss of the glossy finish, nothing serious. Otherwise it's in excellent vintage condition. 1-1/2" diameter.

Sardegna Italy Souvenir Kitchen Towel A vintage cotton souvenir kitchen tea towel of Sardegna Italy. Wonderful map graphics in bright primary colors, measures 18" by 24". Dates to 1960s, possibly 1950s. The towel is signed but I can't read the signature, possibly Elen Bicce. Some mild fading to the colors and a couple of minor, small spots that are barely visible among the busy design - about the only way to notice them is to examine the back of the towel.

Brass and Enamel Hand Painted Souvenir Compact Yellowstone Park Old Faithful A scarce vintage Yellowstone souvenir item in its original box, this gold colored brass and white enamel compact has a hand painted scene of Old Faithful on the lid, along with the words Old Faithful Geyser and Yellowstone park. It has its powder screen and puff but no sign that there was ever any powder inside. The mirror has some minor spotting and three scratches and there is evidence of light "purse wear" to the finish, nothing noticeable. The underside does have a faint rouge stain as shown and the puff has rust colored spots on one side. The compact measures 2-3/4" diameter and comes in its original (plain) cardboard box.

Old Mexico Souvenir Large Scarf or Tablecloth This vintage rayon Mexican souvenir textile is probably a large scarf, though it could be used as a tablecloth or wall hanging. It measures more than 33 by 36 inches, decorated with a bull fighting scene in the center. At either side is printed Mexicali Old Mexico and Tijuana Old Mexico. At the corners are scenes of Indian Dancers, Oaxaca pottery painters, Tarasco Indians, and fiesta dancers. The scarf is bordered in pink, and silver glitter enhances the graphics.

The scarf has a few fold wrinkles but has never been washed or used. There is no wear or damage, it's still in mint condition. Circa 1950s.

Yellowstone National Park Souvenir Cigarette Lighter This brushed chrome cigarette lighter was a souvenir of Yellowstone Park in the 1960s. Raised copper colored metal script lettering on the cover reads "Yellowstone Nat'l Park". The underside is marked "Supreme Korea". The chrome case has some very light use wear, nothing noticeable. The wick is intact and the lighter sparks fine. I have not filled it with lighter fluid for safety in shipping reasons but that's all it needs.

The ruby stained top is incised with the name Myra K. Smith and dated 1900. There's a nice leaf and scroll decoration encircling and to either side of the date. 4516-2

1930s Yellowstone Park Painted Leather Photo Album Hand painted leather souvenirs were popular in Yellowstone National Park gift shops in the 1920s and 1930s. This 8-1/2" by 5-3/4" sueded leather photo album is from that time period, with a handpainted scene of the lower waterfalls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The word Photographs above the falls scene is printed in light green to match the braided binding tie and geometric painted border. Yellowstone Park is hand lettered at one side of the scene.
Inside are 20 sheets of heavy black paper, all with evidence of removed photo mounts. The word Family is written on the first sheet, the only writing in the album. The back cover is plain undecorated leather. Though previously used, there are no tears and only minor wear, mostly to the edges and corners. Overall the album is in very good vintage condition and displays nicely.

Yellowstone Park Souvenir Chalkware Bear Bookends A great set of chalkware bookends depicting bears at the mouth of rock caves, a vintage souvenir of Yellowstone National Park. They're 4-3/4" high by nearly 5" wide and have green felt protecting the bottoms.

The bookends display wonderfully from the front but they have the normal wear and chipping common to old chalkware on the backs and sides. The damage is best visible in the second picture. It isn't bad, just some chipping to the back corners and wear at the upper back tops. The only wear visible from the front is a rub mark chip to one bear's nose, shown in closeup in the third photo. There are no identifying marks but I don't they date any later than the 1950s, perhaps earlier. See my other listings for more vintage and antique Yellowstone souvenirs and memorabilia.

Child's Painted Leather Coin Purse, Yellowstone Park Souvenir This old leather coin or change purse was a souvenir of Yellowstone Park, no doubt meant for a child. Made of sueded buckskin, it's 4-3/4" by 3-1/2" with a tasseled rayon cord carry strap or handle. One the front is a hand painted scene of Old Faithful geyser.

The purse is in remarkable condition for its age, undoubtedly stored away and never used. There is no wear, damage, or soiling. Painted leather souvenirs were popular in Yellowstone gift shops in the 1920s and 1930s, though I'm sure a few could still be found in West Yellowstone tourist traps during World War II.

Yellowstone Park Souvenir Apron This vintage cotton apron was a 1950s souvenir of Yellowstone National Park. In the center is printed a pictorial map of the park, framed by images of Old Faithful, bison, elk, and bears in primary colors of yellow, red, blue and green. The apron is 19-1/2" long at the center from the top of the arched waistband by 23" wide at the hem. It looks like it was probably laundered at least once but the colors are still bright and unfaded. There is no tag but the apron is a Cactus Cloth brand by Barth and Dreyfus of Los Angeles, California. 4538

Souvenir Yellowstone Cedar Wood Trinket or Powder Box with Hand Painted Scene This nice old turned and polished cedar wood trinket, jewelry, or powder box was a souvenir of Yellowstone National Park. It measures 5-1/4" diameter and has a white Bakelite knob lid finial. Above the knob is painted in script Yellowstone Park, below it is a hand painted scene of a bear with mountains, grass, and blue sky in the background. The inside of the box is lined with heavy parchment. The box itself is in very good shape with no chips, cracks, or serious wear, but the painted areas have signs of age. The word Yellowstone is a bit faded and the bear scene has a ring or bubble mark in the lower right corner - I'm not sure what caused it - perhaps something spilled on it. There are a couple of tiny nicks on the edge of the lid, nothing noticeable.

7281

Purple Transferware Staffordshire Old Faithful Yellowstone Souvenir Plate This vintage souvenir collector plate depicts Yellowstone National Park's Old Faithful geyser in purple or mulberry transferware - a very uncommon color for Yellowstone plates. It measures 7" diameter and has a floral border.

The back carries an underglaze banner and a descriptive historical paragraph on the park and geyser. At the bottom of the plate is printed "Fine Staffordshire Ware, Designed Exclusively for Hamilton Stores, West Yellowstone Montana, Made in England, Underglaze Detergent Proof".

There is no maker's mark but the decoration and back markings are almost surely indicative of Adams. The plate is fairly old and does have some tiny, hair-fine white scratch marks to the glaze from use or stacking, but no crazing, cracks, or chips.

French Hospital 1963 San Francisco Ashtray This vintage ceramic souvenir ashtray was probably made to commemorate the grand opening of the new medical center complex at the French Hospital in San Francisco. The clover shaped 4" ash tray has a painted image of the hospital and grounds as it appeared in 1963 and is titled and dated as such. The ashtray looks brand new with paint and gold trim intact, no damage or wear. The original red and gold foil label reading 'Efcco Imports San Francisco Made In Japan" is on the underside. Heart Shaped Cedar Wood Yellowstone Souvenir Trinket Box This vintage cedar carved trinket box was a souvenir from Yellowstone National Park in the 1950s. The printing is faded a bit and the inside has some old dried sap in the corners, but the box has little wear and displays nicely. The original $1.50 price stamped on the underside makes me wonder if it isn't a little older than 1950s.
