6823

Vintage Glass Test Tubes in Wooden Stand Holder This vintage laboratory or chemist test tube rack is made of silver painted wood and stamped with the number 16, probably because it holds 16 tubes. The shelves are held in place with wood dowels, two of which ar missing but the eight remaining are enough to secure the rack. The back of the rack has eight wooden rods or dowels on the bottom shelf, presumably used to hold tubes for drying.

Included are eight glass test tubes, each with red and clear plastic lids or stoppers. The tubes are 6 inches long by 7/8" diameter. They are a little dusty but undamaged with no cloudiness or damage. One had an old cellophane cigar wrapper inside, I didn't realize it until after the pictures were taken.

7283

Airguide Desktop Barometer with Temperature and Humidity Gauges This vintage Airguide barometer with temperature and relative humidity gauges was made in the USA by Airguide Instruments Company of Chicago and is marked as such on the face. Encased in a ribbed and stacked dark brown phenolic plastic frame and mounted on a goldtone metal Deco style curved base, the unit measures 8" wide by 4-1/4" high by 2" deep. Three of the four screws are missing from the back panel but the one remaining is enough to secure the back, and the instruments all seem to work well and accurately. The case needs a minor cleaning. No chips, cracks, or damage.

Pair of Vintage Glass Apothecary Chemist Bottles With Stoppers Both of these vintage glass apothecary or chemist bottles are about 4-1/2" tall to the rim by 2-1/8" diameter at the base. The Pyrex bottle is a little taller due to the tab handle top of the glass stopper. It is unused and still has the paper wrapper that was around the stopper base inside the bottom (it fell in when I removed the stopper). The underside is marked in mold "Pyrex, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Made In U.S.A. D-17". The stopper is marked Pyrex with the number 19 and a multi-crossed T symbol. Excellent, mint condition.

The second bottle has a flat ring stopper lid, tied to the neck with cotton string. It's marked T.C.W. Co. 4 U.S.A (T. C. Wheaton Company). I believe this bottle is unused as well, in excellent condition with no signs of use or wear.

6938

Antique Carved Wood Black Forest Style Thermometer Barometer I'm not sure if this antique European (probably German) carved wood wall thermometer would be considered Black Forest or not, as the design is not the typical rococo style. The shape and decoration have definite Arts and Crafts elements. The wood appears to be oak. The very dark finish is original. Measurements are 19-3/8" long by 6-1/4" wide.

The white porcelain enamel thermometer is marked for centigrade and Reaumur scale, an obsolete European unit of temperature measure. It works but I don't know how accurately. Note the wonderful spiral coiled thermometer bottom. The aneroid open face barometer has German or Dutch wording, I don't know whether it works. The beveled glass cover is original and undamaged. The wooden case is in excellent condition with only one scratch on the back. It has not been refinished. The only thing that might be considered a condition issue is that the thermometer plate slides a bit, exposing less than 1/8 of an inch of what looks like old paper behind it with columns of numbers (see picture 3).

7029

Antique Carved Wood Black Forest Thermometer Barometer White Paint This beautiful late 1800s to early 1900s Black Forest style carved wood wall thermometer has a high quality Danish barometer but was likely made in Germany. Made of mahogany, the flower and leaf hand carved frame has been painted white with gold trim. It think it was done long ago by a previous owner, the white paint is a little chippy and you can see the original very dark brown finish underneath. Overall measurements are 19-1/2" long by 8-3/4" wide.

The white porcelain enamel and glass thermometer is marked for centigrade and Reaumur scale, an obsolete European unit of temperature measure. The thermometer appears to work fine and accurately. The aneroid open face barometer is marked Cornelius Knudsen Kjobenhaven (Copenhagen). The Cornelius Knudsen Company was known for making very fine quality scientific instruments in the 1800s and early 1900s. The beveled glass cover is original and undamaged. The wooden frame is in excellent condition under the paint with no discernible cracks or chips.

5533

Green Glass Lantern Globe or Lens Cover I'm not exactly sure what this old green glass globe fits, but it's some kind of cover for a light or bulb, possibly a small lantern or signal light. It's 3" high by 2" diameter inside. The dark green glass is slightly ribbed on the inside, the glass is wavy. The bottom is threaded to screw onto, or into something. A wire loop is attached to the groove inside with five extending loop hooks. The globe is in good condition with no chips or cracks.

5589B

1966 Civil Defense Fallout Protection Booklet Here's a great little relic of the Cold War: Fallout Protection for Homes with Basements, published in 1966 by the Department of Defense, Office of Civil Defense. The 24 page booklet has a quote and picture of President Lyndon Johnson on the first page, and talks about building permanent and improvised radiation fallout shelters in your basement in the event of a nuclear attack. The first part of the booklet has a scary little lesson on what fallout is and what it can do. It's in very good condition with no damage and virtually no wear.
