Artificial Trees, Tree Toppers and Christmas Tree Stands

Rest assured that after years of buying, selling, and collecting vintage ornaments, I have learned how to pack them safely. I know how heartbreaking it can be to hear that awful tinkling when your package arrives and find nothing but shards inside. Your purchases will be carefully packed with no skimping on materials to survive just about any drop, kick or fall the postal service can dish out.

Musical Tinsel Christmas Tree With Retro Pixie Elves in Original Box This terrific 1960s musical revolving tinsel Christmas tree is 20" tall. The limbs are blue and green metallic foil tinsel, most decorated with a silvered glass ornament ball. The tree rotates and plays Jingle Bells when you wind it up. Best of all, three poseable retro pixie elves sit among the branches, including one at the top of the tree. Each holds something to decorate the tree - a glass ornament, a bell, and a pine cone. Wrapped gifts rest at the base of the tree.

The tree is in excellent vintage condition, displays wonderfully, and the music box works fine. The wooden music box base is marked Japan. The box lid has two corner splits and some storage wear, but the box bottom is intact with the original Made In Japan label on the end.

6 Foot Vintage Pom Pom Aluminum Christmas Tree Complete in Original Box This vintage silver aluminum Christmas tree is from the early 1960s. It's in great condition, complete in its original box marked Christmas Pine Stainless Metal Standard 6 Ft Brilliant Pine With Pom Pom, Model A-646. When put together the tree actually measures 73 inches high, just over 6 feet. I didn't fluff or unspread the branches for the photos, as shown it's on the slender side at 3 feet wide.

There are 48 pompom tipped branches, about 22 inches long. Two branches are extras, as there are 46 holes in the 2-part wooden tree trunk. All have their original paper sleeves, most of which are in almost pristine condition. The tinsel branches are also in excellent condition with almost none of the needle frazzling or loose tinsel that sometimes occurs with age and use, and no dings or bends to the wires themselves. The tape used to secure the foil at the bottom ends has started to loosen on two or three branches but they're still secure. The 3-legged folding tree stand is in great condition. I'll bet this tree wasn't used more than a couple of times. The box has some storage wear of course after about 50 years but it's intact. There is no manufacturer name, date, or address on the box but it does have a patent number that was issued in 1959.

Fabulous Vintage Red Beaded Tinsel Christmas Feather Tree This wonderful vintage red tinsel tabletop or feather size tree was made in Japan. It's 20 inches tall with adjustable sturdy wired branches decorated with colored mercury glass beads. The beads are wired on so you could remove them if you like. The tree is on gold painted wooden base which is stamped Japan on the underside. The tree is in very good condition, no shedding of the heavy metallic red needles and no breaks to the glass ornaments. There's just a bit of color wear to the trunk stem right at the center. The lower branches are 8" long.

6133

Lanissa West Germany Glass Christmas Tree Topper with Santa Claus Figure Made in 1950s West Germany for Shiny Brite by Lanissa, this blown glass silvered Christmas tree top ornament has some unusual details. It's wrapped in crinkle wire and has stiff metallic gold tinsel tails extending from the top of the spire, as well as a chenille and spun cotton Santa Claus elf figure attached to the blue glass lower bulb.

The topper is 12" high, silver and blue in color. The little Santa figure has a spun cotton head with chenille beard and arms (no body, just the head and arms resting on the top of the bulb). The stiff metal tinsel strands are 6" long and drape around the silver spire tip. There are no chips or breaks to the glass but there is some wear to the blue ball, a result of the wires rubbing against the finish, and the upper portion of the tip has some inner silvering loss. The topper comes in its original box which is missing the cellophane window but is otherwise in good condition.

7086

Nesco 1930s Dancing Santa Claus Metal Christmas Tree Stand This late 1930s metal Christmas tree stand was made by Nesco, National Enameling and Stamping Co., which made home and kitchen wares from the early 1900s to the mid 1950s. It's 14-1/2" diameter by 3-1/2" deep (6" high overall in center), painted dark green and red with an Art Deco inspired red and white litho design of Santa Claus dancing all the way around the outside. The stand has a cup insert in the center to hold the tree trunk straight and well as 3 screw bolts around the top steel ring. The entire base holds water, accessed through openings at the base of the center cup holder. The bottom is impressed Nesco.

The inside has paint wear and light surface rust as shown, nothing severe and it doesn't go through the metal. The outside Santa graphics have flaking, some of the 10 Santas are more worn than others - I've shown the worst examples in the last two photos. There are no dents or dings.

4748

1930s Decorated 15 Inch Bottle Brush Christmas Tree with Glass Candles An old, very beautiful bottle brush style tabletop Christmas tree decorated with mercury glass balls, glass candles, and a glass star at the top. The branches of the 15" high tree, as well as the solid glass candles and star topper, are attached to a steel cone base. You can probably insert a light bulb inside to light up the glass candles and star. I could have done a better job of plumping out the branches for the pictures - they were kind of scrunched up from storage but are easily adjusted and they do not shed.

The tree has twelve 2" glass candles, plus the glass star on top. The star has a few flakes at the points, the candles are all in good condition. In addition, there are about a dozen small 1/2 to 1 inch mercury silvered glass feather tree ornaments hanging from the tree, probably added by the original owner. Again, I could have arranged them better for the photos - I took the pictures with the tree just as it came from storage without any fussing or prettying up. The tree dates to the 1930s, if not earlier, and is still in wonderful condition.

6212

1920s Red Metal Christmas Feather Tree Stand This 1920s red painted steel stand or holder is for a Christmas feather tree, made for the G.R. Kirk Co. of Tacoma Washington, who sold Christmas trees beginning in 1918. The stand is 6-1/2" diameter with a center hole opening just a shade over 1/2 inch diameter. The center has a six point star embossed around the opening and the words "G.R. Kirk Co. Tacoma Wash" encircle the star.

The condition is pretty good for its age with just the right amount of authentic wear. Some expected scuffing to the paint at the high points of the embossing, a few small dings and scratches on the bottom, and very light rust near the underside edge. I'll bet this neat old tree stand could be used as a flag holder when not needed for your holiday Christmas tree.

7120

Cranberry Flashed Unsilvered Glass Christmas Spire Tree Topper This very unusual glass spire Christmas tree top ornament may be from the World War II era, as it was never silvered, or it may be even older than that. I personally collect American war ornaments, and I've never seen one like it. At 6 inches high, the smaller size makes it suitable for a tabletop or feather tree topper. The glass is a transparent cranberry or ruby dark pinkish-red color, flashed on the inside, which makes it less susceptible to flaking and scratches. The outside is decorated with painted blue spirals around the spire tip and three horizontal rings or stripes around the lower ball. The blue decoration was coated in mica or ground glass glitter, much of it now worn away, as is some of the blue painted color. The glass has no chips or flakes. An incredible find for any war ornament collector.

4546

1940s Christmas Angel Net Dress, Composition Face, Mohair Wig - Treetop or Ornament This lovely old Christmas angel doll figures is 7-1/2" wide, about 6" high, and can be hung on the Christmas tree as an ornament or used as a tree top angel. Her dress is stiff nylon netting with satin lining, decorated with gold foil stars and a gold metallic ribbon sash. The angel's wings are heavy gold foiled paper outlined in thick, furry white chenille. Her head is a composition or clay-like material, with hand painted facial features and mohair blonde hair.

The dresse is a bit dingy but not dirty or stained, though the chenille on the wings does have some yellowing. I see no other problems, just typical signs of age and use common to any 60-plus year old Christmas decoration. There are no labels or markings but I doubt she's any more recent than the post-war 1940s. Two are shown in the photos but only the white dress angel remains - the pink one has been sold.

2 Noma Metal Star 1940s Christmas Lighted Tree Toppers Both of these metal lighted star electric Christmas tree top decorations were made by Noma in the 1940s, called Illuminated Christmas Tree Star on the original boxes (not present). Both are made entirely of painted steel and are just over 7" diameter. One has a red back with white mica glitter coating on the upper star, now discolored with rust showing through the worn areas. The other is white with blue at the center and points, the same red back. Both have cords and light up fine but the white and blue star has a replacement cord and socket taped in place at the back and is missing the clear red cover over the center opening. You can trade cords or bulb covers and use whichever style you like best, or use them both as they are. Price is for the pair.

5995-2

1950s Foil and Celluloid Angel Tree Topper Mint in Box This late 1940s to early 1950s Christmas angel tree topper decoration does not appear to ever have been used, though it has been taken out of the box a few times. The original box isn't marked with a manufacturer's name, just the words Christmas Tree Top Angel and Fireproof.
The angel is made of a very thin, molded celluloid type hollow plastic. She's mounted on a metallic silver foil star about 9" high by 8-1/4" diameter. A cutout in the back allows you to insert a light bulb to illuminate the angel if desired. The angel is perfect with no damage, the foil star has a couple of very slight bends to the tips, just from being taken in and out of the box. The box itself has expected age discoloration but is in excellent condition with no tears, the cellophane window intact.

Paramount Tree Top Star Christmas Topper Light in Original Box This late 1940s hard plastic Christmas lighted tree top star is model number 735, the smaller of two sizes made by Paramount. Measuring 5-1/2" wide, the white dimensional 5-point star is outlined in transparent red, giving a nice halo-like glow when lit. A hole at the top point allows you to hang the star from your window. The star lights up fine and has no chips or cracks. There are a couple of minor, light scuffs to the white plastic. The box is in excellent condition with no damage, cellophane window intact. 7121

1950s Fantasy Spiked Indent Flower Blown Glass Tree Topper A beautiful and scarce fantasy blown glass Christmas tree top ornament made in West Germany circa 1950. It's about 8" high by 5-1/4" wide, in a flower shape with red spike teardrop petals surrounding a fancy double flower indent ball center. The colors are dark red and green on silver with hand painted white comma-stroke leaves and dots framing the tinted flower indents on both sides. The opening at the lower stem has lost its color and silvering from rubbing against pine needles, and there are a few tiny scratches to the red spikes as shown, nothing serious. The extremely fragile glass has no breaks, chips, or flakes and the colors are still bold and vivid.

5605

Green Tinsel Bells Circle of Lights Electric Wreath Tree Topper in Box This lighted tinsel wreath decoration is part of a series of "Circle of Light" Christmas decorations. Other styles had candles or figures like elves or Santas in the center. This one has two brass bells with metal clappers dangling from the center, tied with a red ribbon and lacquered holly and berries. The green lights, crystal flower reflectors, and bright green tinsel are very pretty and festive, even when the lights are off.

The box says it's for windows, walls, or doors but my parents used theirs as a tree topper. The wreath lights up fine and is in good condition, though the red flannel ribbon shows some wear. The box has quite a bit of storage and handling wear but is intact.

15 Inch Christmas Bottle Brush Tree with Glass Ornaments This very attractive old tabletop bottle brush Christmas tree was made in Japan. It's a little over 15" high, the lower branches about 5" long, lightly brushed with white gesso snow. The tree is decorated with antique gold feather tinsel garland wrapped around the trunk and little mercury glass colored ornaments. The ones attached to the trunk are larger and were probably added later, the smaller ones at the branch tips are hanging from tiny red gold beads. A silver mercury glass star ornament is at the top.

The Christmas tree is planted in a wooden 4-sided box, painted white and brushed with white mica glitter. The underside is stamped Japan. The glass star tree topper has a small hole at one of the side points. There is no other damage aside from some wear to the white paint and glitter around the holder base.

There are no chips or breaks and the gold and silver finish are in good vintage condition. The red flower centers are worn, more on one side than the other, and the lower opening is transparent gold. GE Plastic Santa Claus Christmas Light String on Tabletop Tree This retro Santa Claus Christmas light string comes with an artificial tabletop tree to display them on, or use the lights on your own tree, window, or mantle. The lights are USA-made GE brand miniature lights, produced in the 1970s to early 1980s. The string is nice and long, over 16 feet, with 2" hollow plastic full figure Santas covering each of the 20 mini lights. The covers are removable so if the lights burn out you can put them on a replacement string but the lights do work as shown.

The lights were found as shown on the Christmas tree which is included, unless you'd rather not take it. It's about 19" tall with nylon-type needles on a 3-leg plastic stand, marked Made In Taiwan. In good vintage condition, it dates to the same time period as the lights.

An unpunched keyhole above the bulb will allow you to hang the angel on a wall or suspended in a window, the coiled metal extension below the bulb fits on to the top branch of a Christmas tree.

The cord and plug are in good condition with no brittleness or damage. There's a little wear to the back edges of the cardboard backing, very minor and nothing that shows from the front. No breaks, cracks, or damage to the angel, and it lights up fine. The box is missing the upper flap and has typical wear from age and storage, one broken but not detached crease to the upper edge. 7373

Bradford Eames Era Carillon Spire Lighted Tree Topper With Angel Hair Doesn't this funky Eames era plastic tree top ornament look like something that belongs on the Jetsons Christmas tree? Maybe not, it's probably too gaudy for the Jetsons. It's called the Carillon Tree Spire, made in the USA by Bradford in the 1960s.

The topper is made of red metallic hard plastic and has three gold and red bells dangling from the sides and open center cutout globe. The large reticulated ball near the bottom is filled with a swirl of white angel hair. The topper stands 13-1/4" high. This is the electrified version (they were made unlighted as well), with a cord and light bulb that makes the angel hair glow with subtle light.

The topper is in excellent condition with no damage or wear. It lights up fine as you can see, and the cord and plug are in perfect condition. The box is rather flimsy, having never been intended to last 40 or 50 years. It has a loose cellophane window and quite a bit of corner, flap, and edge wear but is still intact.

The long spire cone above the bulb has recessed vertical ribs tinted red, green, and yellow. White mica pine trees decorate the blue bulb in between the indents. There is some wear to the white mica glitter and the blue opening at the bottom has lost some of its inner silvering but the wear is minimal and there are no chips or damage. The original covered box is present and in good vintage condition with one taped corner and a partial split to the lower right lid edge.

Angel Wired Mesh Lighted Christmas Tree Topper This retro doll-style lighted Christmas angel from the 1960s is a tree topper but can stand upright to decorate your mantle or tabletop as well. She's 6-1/2" tall to the tops of her wings, taller with the glittered cardboard star halo wand above her head. Her head is porcelain, her body a sugar-coated plastic ball ornament. Her wired gown and wings are covered in a silver metallic mesh fabric, and she has a spring under her dress to slip over the top of a Christmas tree. Ten miniature white lights illuminate her bodice, face, behind her wings, and under her gown. The angel lights up fine as shown. The sheer metallic fabric is separated from the wing tips with a tear in the center of one wing, and the porcelain head has some minor age crazing. Otherwise the angel is in excellent condition with the white cord still wrapped in its original coil and foil Made In Japan label intact.

Poland Yellow Glass Spire Christmas Tree Topper With Box This 1960s Polish blown glass Christmas tree top decoration comes in its original box. It's 11-1/4" long, bright satin yellow with silver tip. The front has a stylized Christmas tree decoration outlined in silver glitter with red base and candles at the branch tips. Three red and silver glitter stars decorate the back. The opening is nice and wide to accommodate thicker tree tops. No chips or breaks but there is some minor light spotting to the yellow background from age and handling, and the opening has lost color and darkened. The box is in fair condition with small corner splits but does its job of protecting the fragile glass topper.
