Circa: 1930s - 1940s Country of Origin: United States
This wonderful, heavy old cold painted figural duck American pottery cookie jar is listed in my book with an unknown maker and my research hasn't turned up any others like it. It dates to the 1930s or early 1940s and has a wonderful old character look, perfect for a vintage kitchen.
About 13" tall, the proud duck has expressive blue eyes with painted eyelashes and wears a red shawl or scarf tied in a big bow at the breast. The webbed feet, wings, tail feathers and facial features are well defined. The underside is impressed U.S.A. 10. There is some faint crazing to the head lid but the only crazing I could find to the body piece is limited to the very bottom edge. There are no chips, flakes, or cracks, just the expected areas of cold paint wear, really not bad for a cookie jar of this age.
