Circa: 1950s Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Maddux of California These beautiful, graceful Mid-Century pottery black swan figural planters by Maddux of California are 11" high by about 8" wide. I remember admiring a pair of swans like these in my aunt's bathroom when I was a child. She had filled one with rolled washcloths, the other with guest soaps. I have two as well, identical except for the markings on the bottom and slight variations in the painted facial details. The one with the darker pink bill and less white near the eye areas is glazed on the bottom and has an in-mold mark reading "Maddux of Calif., © 510, Made In U.S.A.".

The second swan was obviously made from the same mold and decorated nearly identically, except the bill is a lighter shade of pink and there is more white near the swan's eyes. The underside is unglazed and unmarked. Both have minor water sediment inside the planter area, just at the bottoms and not excessive. Otherwise they're in excellent condition with no damage. Price is for each, please specify your preference if only taking one.
