Circa: 1941 Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: Heirloom Needlework Guild
This Hiawatha boxed needlepoint picture kit by Heirloom Needlework Guild is dated 1941 and called a "picture outfit" on the box. The Southern Belle or Victorian lady design is pre-stitched onto the canvas with only the background needing to be worked. The lady is wearing a long ruffled pink gown with white apron or pinafore trimmed in pink flowers. She carries a blue parasol and holds a bouquet of flowers. The design is 6-1/2" high, the mesh canvas is about 13 by 14 inches. The kit is unused and complete with canvas, needle, 100% wool yarn, nice cherrywood frame, and instructions.
A 1941 Hiawatha Heirloom Needlepoint Outfits catalog is also included, offering kits for more framed pictures, vanity trays, and doorstops. The box and contents are in excellent unused condition but I detected a slight smoky-musty odor to the canvas, pretty normal for a 70-year old item of this type.
