Over 100 years old. We have a small number of the original, heavy brass door knobs that were used in New York City schools over a century ago. These are NOT reproductions.

We purchased them many years ago from a salvage yard in Manhattan. We have done nothing to change the patina except to wipe them off. You can have them professionally polished to a brilliant shine, but to us that takes away from their distinctive, aged appearance.

It's fascinating to think of such artistic care being taken with such a utilitarian item. These gorgeous knobs were very likely one the most beautiful things in the daily lives of the immigrant children of New York.

These are little works of art, and look great on a shelf or a desk. They are heavy and feel terrific when you pick them up. Though some people have had luck making them work as door knobs again, we can't guarantee that. Wish we could, but there are so many variations of doors and hardware.

Size 2.5" x 1.5". Original antique door knobs like this are extremely rare. We only have a small quantity and when they are gone, we will not have any more.
