LES MAITRE DE L’AFFICHE, PL 12, 1896. GRANDE BRASSERIE. Artist: Armand Rossenfosse. Plate 12.
This is a handsome original lithograph created in 1896 as part of the famous series, “Les Maitre de l’Affiche” (Masters of the Poster). These were superb, small size lithographs of popular advertising posters from 1895 to 1900. The series was produced by Jules Cheret, the father of the poster. The Maitres were sold by subscription.
Each plate was numbered. The number appears at the bottom left corner along with the name of Cheret’s printing company, Imprimerie Chaix. In the bottom right hand corner of each plate is an embossed stamp. Each plate is approximately 11 3/8” x 15 3/4” (29cm x 40cm).
“Maitres” were produced in a limited quantity and sold by subscription. They have been sought after by collectors for over 100 years.
Condition is very good. Image is excellent. There is some very modest rippling in the paper. It comes in a 16 x 20 double mat, acid free. It will look wonderful framed.
