This is one of the most unusual trophies we’ve come across. It is a quadruple silver plate ashtray inscribed as 1st Prize in an 1897 bicycle race.
For starters, the ashtray itself is by James Tufts and is very well crafted with the embossed pipe and smoke. Then the engraving is also nicely done on the pipe bowl and stem.
Size: 3 3/4" high x 9 1/2" wide
Inscription on bowl reads: Fred Days 1ST Prize Slow Bicycle Race July 4TH ’97
Inscription on stem reads: 345 Beverly Frarvins (last name hard to read)
Marked on bottom: James W. Tufts, Boston Warranted Quadruple Plate 3270
