Terrific original card stock poster advertising a cow auction in Palmyra, New York. Fred D. Guile, Auctioneer. Person selling the cows was W. D. Perry. "35 Head of Cattle" and "10 Good Breeding Ewes." Nice old illustration of a cow, with signature "J. Filmer, SC."
This piece was printed on a letterpress with wood type and probably a copper plate for the art.
Size of poster is 14" x 22" (matted to 17 1/2" x 25 1/2").
We had it matted to protect the poster from handling.
Condition is well used, but good. It is an old poster that probably spent many years stuck away in a barn. It has a few moderate water stains, some tears and a few very small holes, but it is stable and actually displays extremely well. The large letters get all the attention, not the flaws.
Full of charm and character.
