Be sure to see all the photos. This amazing piece was used by WWI German soldiers to lug 3 artillery shells to the front. It is made of wood and wicker. Not sure if wicker is the right term, but it is heavy and interwoven like wicker. It has its original canvas handle and straps as well as the canvas and leather straps that secured the metal top. Even the brass catches that held the straps in place are there.

I saw one almost identical to this at the Verdun Museum in France.

Condition is remarkable. Looks like it has been carefully stored since 1918. It is tight and sturdy. The metal top is worn, but has part of its original paper label which is in German. The leather strap that held the metal top on one side is separated.

There are a few small stains on the wood, but nothing major at all.

Size: 20" high x 14 ½" wide x 5" deep.

Whether you are collector or a re-enactor, this has to be a truly unique piece
