Vontury Lamp / Pot An outstandingly large piece of art pottery by Vontury. This was obviously originally designed to be used as a lamp base, as evidenced by the factory hole in the bottom. However, this shows beautifully as a pot and would look magnificent on a shelf or table. Measures just a tad under 15" tall and has its largest diameter at about 6 1/2". This is hand painted, under glaze, with stylized buds, flowers and leaves. Background is a high glaze nicely flowing pale brown. The flowers and foliage are executed in shades of greens, muted burgundy, and hues of blues. Although used nicely with art pottery and studio pottery collections, this actually has a porcelain body. Unsigned. there are 3 factory pinholes in the glaze, on the upper part of the neck. No cracks, chips or repairs.

F J. Von Tury was a Hungarian immigrant who founded his pottery in Metuchen, New Jersey in 1939. His works are sometimes signed "Vontury". (#T-1022)

American Encaustic Heart Dish This pottery dish was made as part of a bridge set. This represented the Hearts suit. Marked AE on the front, for the American Encaustic Tiling Company in Zanesville, Ohio. Probably made in the 20's - this has an attractive blue glaze. Just minor wear - there are no chips. Measures 3 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 5/8" high. Fairly rare to find these. (#T1421)

Roseville Rozane Royal Vase - circa 1904 Fabulous piece of hard to find Rozane Light, also called Rozane Royal and Royal Lights. This new line of art ware was introduced by the Roseville Pottery Company, of Roseville, Ohio, in 1904. The "lights" shades were the pastel version of the darker Rozane line. The designs were executed by artists who did underglaze slip painting (decoration).

This vase measures just over 8 3/4" tall, and has very delicate flowers and leaves - perhaps a Dogwood? The main body in done in shades of gray and ivory. The bottom has an impressed mark which looks to be the number "7". There is one flaw on the backside, looks to be factory - shallow, and measures 1/4" x 1/8". There's a small area of underglaze (factory) impurities - that look like tiny bumps - in the bottom section of the ivory glaze. Displays beautifully - a great addition to an art pottery collection.

Fulper Art Pottery Scarab Flower Frog Made by Fulper Pottery, this is a flower frog in the form of a scarab ( beetle ) , done in a matte blue glaze. Measures 3 1/4" long x 2 3/8" wide, by a bit over 1" high. Unmarked. Glaze chipping around the bottom edge - please see photos. (#T-1874)

Roseville Pot Great piece of satin turquoise glaze Roseville Pottery - Cincinnati, Ohio. Two small cute handles on the sides - nice squared off lip on the top. Roblin Signed Decorated Tile It is very rare to find a glazed piece of Roblin. It is even more rare to find a decorated piece of Roblin Pottery (we have 2 in stock!) This square tile is signed by Linna Irelan (initials LI on the front). The design a flower with leaves. Measures 2 7/8" square. The New Keramic Gallery by Chaffers This lovely hard bound book has a green cloth and gilt cover. Written by William Chaffers and revised and edited by HM Cundall, 1926, this is Volume I of a two volume set. Published in London by Reeves and Turner. The book says it contains seven hundred illustrations of rare, curious and choice examples of Pottery and Porcelain from early times to the beginning of the Twentieth Century. There is wear to the covers, tears on the side of the cover, has the past owners sticker on the inside cover, some pages have become separated the text is very clean. A lovely and very usable reference book for the pottery collector, with the added bonus of being attractive to display.

Chelsea Keramic Vase Attributed to Alexander Robertson, this vase is hand thrown. The cabinet vase is done in Chelsea Green glaze - and is high gloss, and resembles a Greek form. Measures 5" high and about 2 1/4" at its widest. Made by Chelsea Keramic Art Works, Chelsea, Mass., circa 1890. Impressed CKAW on the bottom. In mint condition. (#T-1254)

Eagle dish by American Encaustic Seldom seen, this is a wonderful piece of pottery made by the American Encaustic Tiling Co., aka AETCO, of Zanesville, Ohio, ca 1920. This is an eagle with his wings spread - and he is hugging the outside edges of a shallow dish area. The high green glaze is simply wonderful, and pools heavily in the dish. This is 7 ½" across, 5 ¾" tall and about 4 ½" deep. Impressed circular AETCO mark on bottom. In excellent condition. Great to hold paper clips on your desk - or for keys or coins. (#T-1451)

Harris Strong Cubist Pottery Dish This decorative pottery dish was made by the firm of Harris Strong (who is more well known for his tiles). Roughly triangular in shape, this is 11 /2" long and 7" at its widest - 1 3/8" high. The scene is either a cathedral or church with a clock tower, and perhaps a 2 car garage! B77 is the design number on the back - and impressed Harris G. Strong. Condition is very good. Circa 1960's. (#T-1934)

San Jose Pottery Bowl with Mission The bowl measures 6 3/8" in diameter and about 1" high in total. There's a depiction of the San Jose Mission in cream, brown and deep red - and the words "San Jose" beneath the building. Factory signed on the back "San Jose Mission" - and an original gold foil paper label. Nice blue glaze drip on the outside edges of the bowl. Two factory glaze misses on the outside - shown in photo. One factory inside small round glaze miss. Excellent condition. (#T-1237)

Peters & Reed matte green hand thrown bowl Lovely form and glaze on this hand thrown piece of Peters and Reed pottery, from their Zane Ware line. Measures 6 ½ in diameter, and about 3 high, has a ruffled edge. Bottom has 3 stilt marks and a blue ink stamp. There is one very tiny glaze fleck (<1/16) on the lip. Overall very nice condition. Early Wheatley Pottery Hand Painted Plate This exquisite piece of Wheatley is very early, and unlike much of the later wares. To find hand incised and dated pieces of this important pottery is not common. This large plate measures 11" in diameter. The technique of decoration on this is called barbotine, and was difficult and time consuming. The plate has a deceptively simple design of two lily stalks. Hand incised on the back "T J W & Co" and "1880". This plate is one of Thomas J Wheatley's earliest pieces, as the company was established in 1880, in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is in superb condition.

Moravian Pottery Sconce Two Ships A fabulous sconce made by the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, of Doylestown, PA. Titled "Two Ships", this has a matte blue background with the buff clay color for the designs. This vintage piece dates around 1920, and measures 10 1/8" tall by 4 1/8" wide. Small factory shallow firing line (about 1/2") below and to the right of the bottom ship. Very minor wear or rubs to the blue. Generally in very nice condition. (#T-1812)

La Mirada Pottery - California Two pieces of pottery made by La Mirada Potteries of Los Angeles, California, circa 1920-1930. Both are square low sided dishes in chartreuse and brown crackle - the larger one is more "yellow" than the other. Larger dish measures 7 1/4" square, smaller one is 5 1/2". The larger dish is marked, smaller one is unmarked. No chips, cracks or repairs. (#T-1468)
