Spanish Style Tiles

The Spanish Style is a popular look. It represents a diverse sampling of tiles from many countries and from many time periods. It encompasses work from more modern tile artists (such as Daniel Zuloaga), traditional Moorish and Hispano Moresque styles, as well as the work done by San Jose Potteries. Please see the each inidividual tile descriptions for the specifics on age and maker.

T2076

Spanish Figural Scene Tile - Don Quixote? Very colorful glazes on this scenic tile. This may be illustrating a scene from Don Quixote. There are 4 people in the scene - the main character is standing in front of an empty bookcase - and books are strewn around the floor. This could be a library...?

Done in wax resist technique, this Spanish tile probably dates around 1930-1940. Measures 7 3/4" square by 1/2" thick. All corners of the tile are chipped, and there are some smaller edge chips. A frame would cover these chips nicely. The scene is in terrific condition! (#T-2076)

Tile with mythical creature Interesting subject on this 5 ¾" square tile - some kind of creature with a man’s head, and the body of a lion. Looks like there’s a rat or a mouse on his rump as well! White background with several shades of blue and black outlining, and a semi matte finish. This is in excellent condition. The back is not marked but I suspect this is Spanish from the 1940’s.
